Summer was my best season, summer meant the Finch siblings.

I was bursting with excitement as I boarded the train to Maycomb, I could feel the stares of other passengers; it was probably due to the goofy smile I had plastered onto my lips.

When I had finally arrived in at the Maycomb Junction (a courtesy title – Maycomb Junction was in Abbot County) I spotted the familiar face of Aunt Rachel. I ran over to where she waited in a taxi

"Hello Aunt Rachel!" I beamed

Aunt Rachel gave me a warm smile and greeted me back. It was getting dark so Aunt Rachel suggested we stop at a diner for dinner. I ordered some fries and a hamburger, I was starving. When the food finally arrived I dug right in promptly forgetting about my manners.

When I finished my meal I gave Aunt Rachel a toothy smile and thanked her.

When we reached the house I couldn't help but smile, I loved coming to Maycomb, there was never a boring day.

I woke up with a jolt, Jem and Scout!

As I got dressed I discarded my blue shorts and wore real ones, with a belt. I quickly ran to the table and kissed Aunt Rachel on the cheek. I helped myself to a piece of toast and was about to leave the door when Aunt Rachel shouted

"Charles Baker Harris! Now where d'ya think you're going?"

"Ta see Jem and Scout!" I hollered back

"Eat ya food first! Then you can leave"

I slumped my shoulders in defeat and sat at the table, I faintly heard Aunt Rachel mutter something about manners left on the train. When I had finished my breakfast and Aunt Rachel checked to make sure I had finished my breakfast, I zoomed out of the house running straight to the Finch House where I could see Jem and Scout sitting on their front porch.

As soon as I was next to them I jumped right into a story, telling them about the train trip and my dad and maybe I did lie about the twins I saw at Bay St Louis.

"I helped the engineer for a while" I yawned

"In a pig's ear you did, Dill. Hush,' said Jem. "What'll we play today?'

Days later the three of us tried to sneak over to the Radley house. We were doing our best to be silent with the only sound being our breaths. We had reached the fence of the Radley house and a slight pang of fear welled up within me but I quickly pushed it down. We thought it was better to go under the high wire fence at the rear of the Radley lot, we stood less chance of being seen.

We crept over to the window and saw a tiny light flicker through the curtains, then suddenly I saw a shadow, my hands automatically covered and I stepped back, we all made an escape quickly ducking under the fence. I heard the sound of a gunshot me and Jem quickly dived next to Scout, Jem's breath came in sobs: "Fence by the school yard! – hurry, Scout!"

As the summer progressed my time with Jem and Scout lessened, we had recently made a new game called Boo Radley, Boo was the Radley's son and according to Jem was 'half man, half monster, all terror.'

We ran for our lives and on the way we ran into the adults, who questioned our behaviour. I could see Jem and Scout struggling to come up with an excuse so I quickly covered for them, feeling them relax when everyone bought our excuse.

We said goodbye and I started making my way back to the house when I remembered I was engaged to Scout, I pivoted around and kissed Scout swiftly in front of Jem.

"Yawl write, hear?" I bawled after them

It was fun playing with Jem and Scout, I couldn't wait for next summer.
