Sick Little Girl
"Mama, me sick." Johnna said as she shook Jackie awake one night.
"You're sick, does your head hurt?"
"No." The little child replied.
"Does your tummy hurt?"
"Yeah."
"Yeah? I'm sorry, do you feel like you're going to throw up sweetheart?"
"No."
"Maybe you should try to go potty." Jackie told her.
"No." Johnna said as she shook her head. Jackie felt her head.
"You don't feel like you have a fever but let me go get the thermometer so I can take your temperature." Jackie told her with a smile.
Jackie left and came back moments later with the thermometer in her hand.
"Come here sweetheart." She said as she sat down on the bed.
Johnna scurried into her lap.
Jackie took one of Johnna's arms out of the sleeve of her nightgown so she could take her temperature.
"Cold mama." The child said with a giggle.
"Sorry kiddo." Jackie said with a chuckle.
"Mama beep song?" Johnna asked.
Jackie smiled, when she was a small child and had to get her temperature taken her mom would sing her the "beep song" and she had loved it so now she sang it to her kids too.
"Wait for the beep, beep beep, wait for the beep, beep beep." Jackie sang and Johnna laughed.
"Oops you have to keep your arm down though kiddo." Jackie told her with a laugh as she grabbed her arm so it wouldn't move.
"It beepin." Johnna said excitedly moments later when the thermometer went off.
Jackie looked at the thermometer and was relieved to see Johnna didn't have a fever.
"Ok kiddo, no fever, that's good, come on, mommy will sleep in your room with you." Jackie told her as she picked her up and carried her back to bed.
"Do you want something to drink?" Jackie asked her as she laid her back down in her bed.
"No."
"How about something to eat?"
"No."
"Do you want mommy to turn into the tickle monster and tickle you?" Jackie asked.
"No." Johnna squealed with a giggle as she hurriedly scampered over to the other side of the bed as if she thought Jackie couldn't reach her over there.
"Alright, come on sweetheart, let's go back to sleep, I won't tickle you." Jackie told her as she patted where she wanted Johnna to lay down at.
Jackie laid down next to her and soon both of them were asleep.
The next morning Johnna felt fine, and she never did get a visit from the tickle monster!
