What Keeps Me Fighting
"The heart grows cold, the north wind blows and carries down the distant . . . Rose."
The Doctor felt his blood run cold. Rose. She had been gone for months, and yet the Carionites could still see the hole she had left in his hearts.
For a moment he wanted to stop and just walk away, because without Rose, fighting just didn't seem worth it.
But then he remembered what he'd told her on Bad Wolf Bay. 'Rose Tyler, Defender of the Earth.' She was still fighting, even after the universe had locked her away in a parallel world. She was still saving the universe.
The Doctor realized that is what kept him fighting; it was the knowledge that even worlds apart she was still fighting for him, never giving up, and so very, very alive.
He angrily took a few steps forward until he was staring at the Carionite in the eyes. "Big mistake," he growled, "Because that name keeps me fighting."
Fighting in the desperate, foolish hope that someday his pink and yellow human would return, because she was fighting to get back to him. Because even though he ran out of time, he loved her too.
