Love from Ali

Sally smiled, clutching the letter close to her chest. She had never expected to miss her family as much as she did. At first she had been excited about coming to Hogwarts and learning magic. After a few days, though, she had become rather homesick. Receiving a letter from her baby sister over breakfast made up for everything.

"Is it from your mum and dad?" Hannah asked after swallowing a mouthful of cereal.

Sally shook her head. "My little sister," she informed the girl beside her. "She's six."

Hannah grinned. "That's so cute!" she said.

Sally returned the grin, nodding.

Sally really liked Hannah. In fact, she liked all the girls she shared a dormitory with. They were kind, interesting and fun to be around. She didn't know much about the qualities associated with each house, but from what she did know all those girls were sorted correctly.

"Do you have a little sister?" Sally then asked, taking a bite of her own cereal.

Hannah shook her head. "No, just two brothers," she said bitterly. "One's in fourth year, and one will start next year."

"Oh, so they're all magical?" Sally questioned. She had quickly learnt that those who were born to magical parents weren't as friendly as those who weren't. And it seemed to be one of the first things people asked around here, too. She had known Hannah for only four days, and the girl had never questioned her parentage.

"Yes," Hannah said. "All my family is. Though, both my parents are Muggleborns."

"Oh, I see. Well, I think I'm just the only one in my family," Sally answered.

Hannah shrugged, taking another bite. "It happens," she said.

When Hannah began to stare into her bowl, her eyes glazed over, Sally gobbled up the rest of her cereal and shoved the letter into her backpack. Hannah jumped, woken from her reverie, and watched on curiously as Sally jumped from the table.

"Class doesn't start for another half an hour," she said.

"I know," Sally responded, excitement bubbling inside of her. "I want to reply to Ali before it starts." She grabbed the timetable from her bag. "We have Charms first up. Do you know where that is?"

Hannah shook her head.

"Oh, alright," Sally said, sinking back into her chair. "I guess I can write to Ali after class. That way, neither of us will get lost."

Hannah smiled. "Thanks," she said.

Sally shrugged. "I have all day and night to reply," she answered. "No harm."

Hannah just smiled again.

So, if you're all wondering who Sally Smith is, well when I looked her up on the Wiki (because I had no idea either) she was one of the ones named by JK Rowling as starting in Harry's year, but never placed in a house. So, I took the liberty to put her in Hufflepuff :D

I know it's short, but this was hard to think of a plot. I hope you all enjoyed it, though.
