"It's Nikki Heat, right?"
"She has a name," Richard Castle sighed as his head dropped to his hands wondering why he could never have a clean and simple break up. Every woman wanted to rehash the whole enchilada in a search for the tiny piece of rice that had made the whole thing turn into Montezuma's revenge, "and it's a lot of things, Gina."
"Name one, Rick," She flopped down in the chair across from him snapping her gum and twirling the extensions he had bought around her finger, "cause I thought we kind of had a good thing going."
"Just because a situation is good-" He sighed and ran a hand through his dirty hair, "Gina, I really don't want to do this. Can't we just let bygones be bygones?"
"Is it the Taylor Swift thing because I thought we settled that."
"It's no- well it is, but that's not it." He stood and began to pace the far side of the dining room table, "It shouldn't be this difficult, Gina."
"Love takes work."
He slapped his palm against the wall and let his head drop next to his hand, "Yeah, love does but is that what this is?"
Her jaw slacked slightly, "If this isn't love then what is?"
"The songs don't make sense, Gina, and try as I might I don't think I'd ever be willing to break you out of a maximum security prison."
"What?" Her brows furrowed in confusion, "Rick, what are you babbling about?"
"I love you like you're my agent and you're a damn good one at that. I love you like my ex-wife who had my heart for a good chunk of life." He turned and slumped against the wall, "But, Gina, I'm not in love with you."
"So, I'm right, right?" She stood and walked around the table, resting a hand on his upper arm, "I'm not blind, Richard Castle. I see the way you talk about her, hell, the way Martha and Alexis talk about her. How your eyes light up whenever she calls... I guess, I just wanted to ignore the inevitable but it came stampeding in anyways."
"I am really," He took her hand in his, "truly sorry."
"You always are," She stood on her tiptoes, pressing a kiss to his cheek before turning to leave, "Tell Alexis and Martha goodbye for me... I hope Detective Beckett knows how lucky she is to have you."
"Goodbye, Gina."
