Chapter 1: Nishiura Basketball Club

The school famous for its baseball.

Mihashi Ren dodged skillfully as some sophomore from rugby club shoved printed papers to his face. Definitely not, her body isn't built sturdy, rugby isn't his thing… and of course he cannot kick at all so soccer is just as ridiculous as rugby. Then; baseball, maybe he should try this one as long as he is in this school. Why not? Ren half-heartedly walk to the baseball field only to find that there is already a long queue in the said club activity, maybe fifty or so freshmen willing to join.

"You'll never play in game unless they've invite you, or, if you are very skilled. Do you know that? Are you here because of their invitation? Or you have confidence that you will fit their criteria?"

Ren, still amazed to the queue, listening to a busty young woman talking to the timid freshman in the end of the line. The boy shakes his head.

"Heh, so you want to spend your high school period by picking balls?"

"What's your problem lady?" a boy two rows ahead from the intimidated boy shout back, he seems annoyed, "You might be true, though. I don't want to spend three years picking balls here!"

The busty woman smiled, "So… join basketball club! We won't make freshman do trifle jobs," raised murmurs can be heard along the line and her smile getting wider.

Someone said, "But… I never heard this school ha—"

"Well now you hear! Recruitment for Nishiura basketball club is starting today!"

"In the end, I got this many… and YOU!"

Ren tried to hide by hall's door although he knew that it is too late now since she already spotted him.

"You want to join us, right?"

Ren's voice is weak, "It's… just… I… just… want to…."

"SO BE HERE NOW, BOY! IN THE LINE!"

Startled, he run beyond the door and merge with others in the middle of hall. Including him, there are nine others. All freshmen, just like him.

"Nice, nice… how many of you ever played basketball in middle school's club?"

Four raised hands.

"How many of you never played basketball in your entire life? Okay, so that everyone understand basketball since you ever played it…. My name's Momoe Maria, I'm your coach, and he is…," she pointed toward a man in glasses, sitting in bench while scratching a dog in its belly, "…Shiga-sensei, teacher in duty, holding my dog An-chan."

The dog barked hard, but Momoe haven't finished yet, "I'll have to ask your name first. Starting with you four… and which middle schools are you come from?!"

"I think I won't join this club."

Everyone gasped, this sentence come from the boy in the middle – the tallest of them.

"Why nooot?" Momoe talked back, looks sad.

"Because the coach's female."

Momoe watched the boy understandingly. She picked a ball from her feet, walked back to the outside of throw line, then she threw the ball to the ring smoothly. The ball bounce back to her feet, and she repeat her action for five times.

"I can play, and I can teach you how to do this."

The boy looked ashamed, "My… my name's Hanai. I was in Fukuchi."
