Drowning in pain

Grantaire had finally made his way to his apartment, only his key didn't fit. Why wouldn't it? He was sure it did when he left and locked the door. Then it dawned on him. He hadn't walked to his apartment, but to Enjolras and Éponines. He was too drunk to be able to walk all the way to his, so he just banged on the door with all the strength he had.

'What the hell?' He heard Enjolras say, obviously annoyed.

'I'll go.' Éponine said.

No I want Enjolras. He thought, even though he and Éponine had become very good friends, maybe even best friends.

She opened the door in her bathrobe. At first she didn't see Grantaire as he sat down, afraid he'd fall over. Then she looked down.

'Hey, R, what are you doing here?'

'I thought I went to my own apartment, but my key didn't fit and then I knew where I was.'

'Oh, well come in.'

He walked in to see Enjolras sitting on the couch, only wearing his sweatpants. Grantaire gasped at this sight and had to sit down as soon as he could. The only thing to sit on, though, was the couch, right next to Enjolras and he didn't think he would be able to restrain himself sitting next to Enjolras. So he decided to just drop down on the floor. The two others looked worried.

'Are you okay?'

'Yeah, just the alcohol going to my brain.'

'Can I just talk to you for a sec? In private.' Éponine asked.

'Sure.' Enjolras got the message and went to the bedroom. Grantaire couldn't help but imagine what he might be doing in there, not specifically at this moment but-.

'Why are you drinking again? You went into rehab.'

'Yeah, but then the, uh, the… feelings came back, okay. And I couldn't handle it.' He breaks then. Heart-breaking sobs came from his mouth.

'Hey, shh, hey, it's alright. You don't have to hide them from me, remember, I know.'

'You know, but you don't understand! Have you ever felt such an intense desire for someone, but he doesn't even look at you.' He shouted, a little too loud.

'Yes, actually, I do. Remember? But this isn't about me.'

'Oh, yeah, sorry. I forgot about Marius. I guess we were once in the same situation.'

'Yes, and look at where I am now. You will get through this. I know it. It'll be hard but we'll do it together, okay? I'll help you with your drinking and you can help me with this.'

She showed him her wrists. They were covered in scars and on her right one some fresh ones as well.

'You know how I always wear bracelets, right?' R nodded. 'I only wear them because I know he'd disapprove.'

'He definetly would. Just like the drinking.'

'Yeah… So? Are we in this together or what?'

'Yeah!'

'Pinky swear?'

They did the picky swear like they were two teenage girls. Then they burst out laughing when they realised Enjolras had come to see if everything was alright.

'We're in this together.' He said. He gave Grantaire a brotherly hug and kissed Éponines wrist.
