Thanks for clicking on this story. This was a story I wrote and released on this website about a year ago or so. I edited and rewritten the story so there are no titles indication POV's or first person writing, I came to realise I wasn't good in writing from the first person perspective. I rewrote the first chapter and then edited the rest. For those who have read this story then take a look to see if it written better than the first time you read it. Thanks a lot and I hope those reading for the first time will enjoy my first fanfiction I made.
The open window of the passenger seat in the train allowed the wind to gush into Edward's hair. His eyes were closed and his face was serene. Although internally he was in turmoil. It had been some time he had left to the west and by careful consideration and many many phone calls from Winry it was time to return home. He had gathered bountiful research but the first time in almost eight years he felt homesick.
His mind also couldn't help but to wonder about his confession slash proposal to his childhood friend. Ever since then they had never spoken about it over the phone nor through letters they sometimes sent another. He was going to see for himself if she understood what he meant that day and if she wanted the same thing.
His eyes fluttered as he heard the conductor shout of the station name. Edward leaned forward to look outside to see the mechanic plaguing his very mind. And a nice surprise was to see his brother there along with his pipsqueak Xingese girlfriend. His eyebrows furrowed by the lack of a smaller mechanic by Winry's side. Winry had written in one of letters that Pinako had been diagnosed with cancer but she failed to mention whether she was recovering or getting worse.
He got off the train to be attacked by hugs from his brother and Winry while Mei stood by the side giggling at the reunion. As the four hiked their way up to the house Winry had to share the pain of Pinako's departure to the hospital. The night was going to plan regardless of some bad news.
Winry was just happy to have her boys back in one piece, more specifically Ed with his reckless streak. She listened intensely to the boys stories of their separate travels. She tried listening she honestly but when she met Ed's gaze she would automatically think of that day. Her heart's rhythm increased at the thought and a blush crept up her neck.
"Winry you look flustered are you feeling sick" Mei asked.
Winry's head snapped to reality and her blush colour deepened "H-huh ah no I'm fine its just the heat from cooking tonight."
Ed raised his eyebrow at the weird explanation and decided that when dinner was done it be a good time to speak to Winry about that day. After they all had Winry's delicious pie Al and Mei decided to go to bed. Winry was finishing off the dishes and will depart to her own bed soon.
Once she let the water out and dried her hands she left the kitchen and passed the sitting area. She stopped in her tracks to see Edward waiting for her. Her chest tightened restricting her of a clear breathing passage way. His gold eyes pierced right through her, he coughed to grab her attention away from his golden globes.
"Why you still up Ed?"
"Can't really sleep with a lot on my mind." He admitted.
She gulped a little "What's on your mind?"
He chuckled slightly "It's a bit embarrassing…" Winry cocked her head slightly to hear what he would say "… but to be honest I'm thinking of you"
Her breath hitched at the confession, even though it was dark Edward could probably see the blush she was emitting and how deep a red it was. He chuckled more.
"Oh… um why would you think-"
"The train station" he interrupted her. "I kind of confused you there didn't I?"
She traced her mind to what he meant by that. Did it mean he was asking for relationship or did he merely just mean to stay by him and give half of her life to him as a friend. She hoped it wasn't the latter.
"Well to be frank I am confused."
"Okay well then I guess I have to make a fool out of myself again" he joked.
She stood there dumb founded and watched Ed lift himself from his seat and tower her as he did not too long ago at the train station. He took her hand and pulled her outside. It was a clear summers night and the sky was rich with stars and the air was dense and hot. He pulled her along near the back. She was nervous and anxious, she thought maybe this wouldn't be the latter she was thinking earlier or maybe it was but this was just plain inappropriate.
He stopped in his tracks and she almost ran into his broad back. He turned to face her and his face was conflicted. He wasn't frowning more like what his expression was like the day at the train station before he left.
"Winry" he started "I know you think I'm a big idiot and your probably right. But this idiot can't stop thinking about you or worrying about you. You racked my brain every damn day while I was gone." As he spoke she hung on every word he said and humorously agreeing to the idiot comments.
"No one accepts me the way you and of course Al do. You always wait for me and never complain unless you're worried. You also happen to have a temper as big as I do but you're more rational then I am."
"What are you saying Ed?" She blurted out
"Marry me"
Her expression went blank which erupted worry in the ex-alchemists mind. But her expression was replaced by her tears.
"Winry wait no I – I um"
"Yes" she murmured
He heard her just barely "What?"
She was glowing with happiness with her crystal blue eyes watering up "I said yes you idiot" she giggled.
His broke out in a huge smile and hugged her I a huge bear hug. He self-consciously sniffed her hair and caught the familiar essence of cinnamon and apples. It was intoxicating and addictive. He pulled away to look at her face, he had the urge to kiss her senseless and her could. But Winry beat him to it.
Upstairs two peeping toms were spying on the newly engaged couple and were grinning from ear to ear.
"Was that Ed's first kiss?" Mei asked
Alphonse laughed at his girlfriend's naiveté "Nope those two sucked face in the time we stayed for two years."
"Could've fool me"
Yeah so this was the only chapter in this story I re-wrote. The rest is merely edited to third person perspectives. But there is definitely improvement. And I do apologise for some really really short chapters later but hey this was my fist fanfiction. Enjoy reading the rest!
