Just like you
Mia brushed her midnight hair behind her ear, staring at the stars above her. She was the big sister of the group and serious in the face of danger. She was admired by her friends in so many ways. Even Jayden looked up onto her! But even the admired had someone she admired.
Kevin was the most disciplined and serious as the group. He was handsome and smart with a heart like gold. He was always willing to take somebody else's hit. He was basically flawless to her.
She loved him with all her heart. And the girl wanted to be just like him. Be just as disciplined and serious like him. But at the same time, she also wanted to date him. Maybe if she was just like him, he'd date her.
But now she was staring outside, her eyes trying to stay dry. The person she'd admired most was now gone. In the battle earlier, he'd been turned evil. He felt so down about it, he decided to jog alone. She'd wanted to come with him, but he insisted he'd be alone.
"Are you okay, Mia?" the little sister of the group, Emily, asked her.
"Yes," the older girl replied.
"Are you really?"
Sighing, Mia told her the truth, "I'm worried about Kevin. I want him to be safe and feel needed, and him beating himself up over that Nilock..it's driving me crazy."
Just like Mia knew how Emily felt about Jayden, Emily knew how in love Mia was with Kevin. Sitting beside her on the garden bench, the blonde put a comforting hand on her BFF's back.
"Go to him," she smiled, "you are the only one who can make him feel truly loved."
"Thanks, Em," Mia realized she was right, "I will."
The black-haired girl pulled on Kevin's blue jacket and searched for him. The city lights faded, leaving the country stars to shine against the ink of night. That's when she saw the unmistakable figure of Kevin, staring across the shiny, glass lake water.
"I know you feel bad about what happened with Jayden and that Nilock," her voice got his attention.
"Why shouldn't I?" he motioned for her to sit next to him on the dewy grass.
"I know you blame yourself," she looked him in the eye, "but it could have happened to any of us."
"I know," he groaned, "but I hurt you." Seeing her surprised expression, he added in a hurry, "guys! You guys!"
Chucking softly, Mia replied, "I know. But we don't blame you, and the threat the Nilock caused is gone. So just let it go."
"I just can't shake the guilt," he sighed.
"Let me put it like this," she put a hand on his shoulder, "I look up to you more than anybody else in the world. Now, if I don't look up to you, I am mad and you are a horrible person. But I do and I always will. You are my hero, Kevin."
She went below him slightly and looked up to him. He laughed as she got back beside him.
"Thanks, Mia," he smiled, "but you are the one I look up too. You are sort of the glue."
"Emily is the glue," she replied, grinning, "I am the mother."
"My mom died when I was five," Kevin's eyes went a little misty, "cancer took her from me. But having you...the next best thing."
The Pink Ranger was glad the darkness covered her deep blush.
"But don't worry about it," he smiled, "I'm better now because you're right. Thanks, Mia."
"You've helped me before," she was glad she relieved him of his guilt, "it's the least I could of done."
"Looks like we're both going to need to help each other as much as we can," he laughed.
He took her hand, and the two headed back for the Shiba House.
"It would make sense," Mia said as they came to the door, "because..."
"I'm just like you." The two spoke as one before Mia kissed his cheek.
"Goodnight, Kev."
Mike sure had problems sleeping that night. Why? Because Kevin was gushing over it all night.
