Aaron just stood there motionlessly for a while, slowly taking in the words Lucian had spoken. He tried to repeat the words in his head but they quickly disappeared into the sound of raindrops falling. Because the younger teen hadn't moved an inch or showed any sign of life Lucian stated his feelings once more.
"I believe I am attracted to you."
Aaron did nothing but twirl his green umbrella around, looking at the sky, distracting himself and pretending Lucian hadn't said anything by contemplating how it sorta looked like it was crying when it rained.
As a seemingly endless silence formed between the two of them the green-haired boy dared to sneak a glance at Lucian. He has closed his eyes and looked lifeless, melancholic even. But when Aaron took a closer look he noticed something; Lucian was crying. Only slightly, and it was hard to tell because of the rain but Aaron saw a tear rolling down the older boy's cheek.
And that couldn't be. Lucian was cool. Lucian was tough. And Lucian certainly did not cry. There goes another thing to add to the rapidly increasing list of things Aaron would simply ignore the existence of.
Lucian was wondering how long he would be waiting. Getting soaked like this, at least his tears would remain invisible. But every second of silence that followed ached. And every raindrop pouring down after that felt like it was crashing onto his heart, slowly breaking of small bits and pieces.
He had said the words with such confidence but now the purple-haired male could do nothing but stand there. They both seemed like puppets abandoned by their master. And maybe, if you'd say their common sense was their 'master', just maybe, it was true.
"I'm not," The bug master was the first to recover from his trance with a statement he couldn't have left more unclear, purposefully.
""You're not what?" Lucian replied in a monotonous, absent-minded seeming voice. The most obvious and most unnecessary question he could've asked.
"Attracted to you." It hurt to say it like that, it hurt so much more than the countless times he had been rejected. Because he had never lied to himself. But he knew it was going to hurt Lucian too, which was even more painful.
"Oh... I.. see." It was obvious Lucian was frantically trying to hide the tears in his voice and Aaron felt even more horrible for doing this. But how in hell was he supposed to tell people he liked Lucian? He was a guy! Aaron just wanted to be a normal, generally liked person even if that meant hurting himself. He was certain Lucian would get over it soon enough.
"I guess I'll just leave then..." Lucian said after another moment of silence.
Yet again Aaron had no reply. There was nothing he could think of saying that wouldn't make this worse. And so, he didn't stop Lucian but just watched as he walked away, slowly disappearing from view. And even though Lucian was long gone by then, Aaron only left at sunset, feeling empty. Indescribably empty.
