I've been watching you from a distance
The distance sees through your disguise
All I want from you is your hurting
I want to heal you
I want to save you from the dark

Though many thought him to be slow, Haru was no fool. Ever since his outburst at Yuki; the one that his older cousin had accepted and turned into comfort for Haru, the ox-boy had been watching the rat-boy closely. And it was obvious to him that Akito was making his life worthy of the title of Hell. And Haru didn't like it, not one bit.

Give unto me your troubles
I'll endure your suffering
Place onto me your burden
I'll drink your deadly poison

More than anything else in the world, he wanted so desperately to rid Yuki of his pain. Burdens are easier when carried by two, but this was one burden Haru could not interfere with without aggravating the situation and causing more horror for poor Yuki.

Why should I care if they hurt you
Somehow it matters more to me
Than if I were hurting myself
Save you (save you)
I'll save you

He didn't fully understand it, this longing, no, this need to save Yuki from his demons. He questioned himself constantly, why did he care so much for the older boy? Why did his pain seem to hurt Haru more than his own did?

Give unto me your troubles
I'll endure your suffering
Place onto me your burden
I'll drink your deadly poison

But the reason hardly seemed to matter anymore. What mattered to Haru was Yuki's freedom and happiness. But because he could not possibly grant the first one, he tried his best to help his cousin achieve the second. He visited Yuki in his terrible room constantly, daily if he could get away with it. He talked to Yuki, distracted him from his terrible misfortune, and listened whenever the violet-eyed boy found his voice.

Fear not the flame of my love's candle
Let it be the sun in your world of darkness
Give unto me all that frightens you
I'll have your nightmares for you
If you sleep soundly

When Haru told Yuki how much he truly loved him and Yuki had barely said a word regarding it, it hadn't really surprised Haru much at all. But it didn't bother him either. He knew that eventually Yuki would come to accept his love, whether he returned it or not. And that was all that Haru needed; for Yuki to accept him, and to let him help as best he could.

Because the ox had fallen in love with the rat. And that love would stay, for all eternity.
