A/N: I never post my fanfics. Ever. So posting this took a lot of courage. Umm...I have TONS saved on my computer and I'm thinking of uploading more...maybe. I guess it depends on the response to this.
Hope.
What an appropriate name, Lightning thought to herself as she gazed upon the sleeping white-haired boy of fourteen. So young, he looked, with his face so open and vulnerable. Pale silver lashes fluttered softly as Lightning reached her hand out to stroke the young boy's cheek. Such innocence, after all he's been through. A soft smile graced her features as she brushed a few strands that had fallen into his face away with a gentle swipe of her hand. His cherub's bow lips were parted slightly and he emitted quiet snores with every breath. Lightning never would have admitted it out loud, but the sight produced strong maternal instincts within her.
Her brows furrowed as she recalled the night they both lost everything.
The fire struck in the middle of the night. The occupants of the house were dead by morning, or so the fire fighters and investigators claimed. Snow, Serah, Vanille, Sahz, and Fang had been in that house. Lightning was out gathering intelligence and Hope had been taking a walk to clear his mind. When they both returned it was too late.
Lightning shook her head to clear those thoughts away; remembering old memories was too much for her to bear. Everything, everyone was gone. Serah. She felt tears sting her eyes but blinked them away furiously; only the weak cry.
A sudden movement beside her jolted her out of her reverie; Hope had shifted to face her in his sleep, mumbling something unintelligable.
No, Lightning thought as her expression softened while looking at him once more. I haven't lost everything. I still have you.
She pressed a gentle cheek to his forehead before turning out the light and falling to sleep beside the most important person in her world.
And it's enough.
A/N: So? What did you think? Is it review worthy? I'd like to know how I did so if you could drop a review before heading out, it'd be much appreciated.
