BEHIND A MASK, THE LADY

SUMMARY- A poem, a eulogy of sorts. Long live the Queen!

*

Behind a mask, the lady weeps

for nothing she does can ever keep

the law from turning gold and flair

into a frigid, emotionless, brutal affair

Behind a mask, the lady cries

because the cruelties her eyes can't deny

are nothing compared to what she feels

As she waits in the House of God and kneels

Behind a mask, the lady screams

regardless of her wealth and means

the corruption continues undiminished

just as she thought the affair to be finished

Behind a mask, the lady yields

spirit'd away to the Elysium fields

but alas her fate is yet unknown

and she wants not to face it alone

Behind a mask, the lady loves

a man who wilt not woo because

he is torn between women two

the truth it seems has spite him too

Behind a mask, the lady hopes

that one day she may unbind the ropes

that tie her to humanity

and thus accomplish her destiny

Behind a mask, the lady stands

now proud and ready to command

her heart and mind all set on one

dream that the battle has just begun

Behind a mask, the lady prays

that she will rise from where she lays

and continue her fight of all things just

and keep her sword until it rusts

Behind a mask, the lady turns

to the followers she has earned

and asks for each to carry out

her legacy -- the most devout
