Unrequitted Love

He stood beside me; his cool vibe covered my erratically beating heart.

I had never thought that I could feel such comfort from someone who was suspiciously cold, and I really mean cold.

Edward had been my best friend ever since I'd moved to Forks a year ago.

At first, I regarded him as the rudest person I'd ever met. But he became very protective of me, and with the level of clumsiness like mine, having a silent protector had its perks.

I was fond of him right from the beginning of our friendship.

The bell rang.

He grabbed my shoulder; how sweet of him to avoid direct touch. He knew I didn't like cold things.

He signaled with his brows as he half-pushed me forward.

"Lets's go. We have biology."

I smirked to cover up my blush.

"Right."

He was only dropping me off since he said that he had to ditch class.

He saif something about Esme, but I didn't ask anything.

I knew him well, and I understood that he doesn't appreciate nosey people.

A day went like a year without him.

There was always time to fall down, to drop something, or to accidentally stub some body parts when Edward wasn't around.

I chose the safest way to get through the day by going to bed early.

I always felt safer when I'm asleep, but not like other people did.

The feeling was... calming. Like I wasn't alone.

I wouldn't lie; I'd dreamed of Edward on more than one occasion.

Although he was my best friend, I never really knew what was on his mind, and it was pathetic.

He would always find excuses when I tried to flirt, and I would only go down with shame.

Really, now I know.

To be secretly in love with your best friend is tragic.
