Sesshomaru glared heatedly across the small table he was seated at. His companion for this trivial game obviously didn't harness the skill of the game that he himself had acquired over his centuries of life. The man across from him lazily moved his crimson spinning eyes to meet the honeyed gold ones of the western lord.
"Check," said Sesshomaru in his baritone voice. Itachi glared and pressed his fingers to his vulnerable king, moving him to safety. Sesshomaru's eyes narrowed the slightest bit and just as he finished moving his next move into place Itachi came spiraling back with has own tactic.
"Check." Itachi tilted his head slightly and smirked behind his folded hands. The other person scoffed and turned his head.
"This Sesshomaru has no use for such a trivial game." Itachi's smile grew and he deactivated his Sharingan. He leaned back in his chair and flipped his hair over his shoulder.
"By the rules you've forfeited and therefore I am the winner." Sesshomaru stared at Itachi disdainfully. He had not lost this battle to a mere human. He placed his hand on his pelt.
"You do not win. It is a draw." Itachi leaned forward in his chair and motioned to the playing board with his hand.
"Are you blind? It was clearly a win on my part for you quit the game," he said, voice agitated. Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes and pointed his nose in the air.
"Ridiculous. It was a draw." Itachi's agitation grew along with Sesshomaru's denial.
"It was my win."
"Foolish human. It is you who is blind if you can not see that we've reached a tie."
"You're just in denial. I won't bother with you anymore." Itachi pulled out two kunai enhanced with chakra and threw them at Sesshomaru's neck. He gracefully avoided them and aimed his poison whip at Itachi, missing him by a fraction.
"It was a draw." Itachi activated his Sharingan and anticipated the demon lord's next attack. By the time five minutes were up Itachi had a kunai to Sesshomaru's neck and Sesshomaru had Toukijin pressed to Itachi's neck. Both men sported furious glares that could scare anyone.
As suddenly as the fight had started it ended with both Sesshomaru and Itachi unconscious on the ground. A man in black and white robes with long black hair stood before the two. Byakuya replaced his Senbonzakura into his waist band and the corners of his lips twitched in what would be called a smirk.
He walked to the table and flipped the playing board, it's pieces flying everywhere. He let out a chuckle at his own humor.
"I am the true winner of this game."

When Sesshomaru and Itachi woke the only evidence they could find of the person who had knocked them out was the words 'check mate' carved into the stone ground next to them.
