Author's Note
As best I can determine, the Song Over the Hills and Far Away dates back to the beginning of the 18th century in Britain. It has had many variations since its inception- among them, a version sung by John Tams that served as the theme song for the TV Series Sharpe. The common thread among all the versions [at least all the ones with which I am familiar] is that of soldiers going away to war overseas. After I saw Pacific Rim, I was contemplating the fact that Jaeger pilots frequently received overseas assignments during the Kaiju War. I soon fell to thinking about how the song's lyrics might be adapted so as to be about the Jaeger Program. I then took a variation of the song from the 18th century concerning British Involvement in the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714), and altered the lyrics accordingly. The results are below. Dear readers, I hope that you can derive enjoyment from them.
Over the Waves and Far Away
[Sung to the tune of "Over the Hills and Far Away"]
Hark! Now the alerts do sound again,
For all who'll stop humanity's end.
Come list and punch kaiju today,
Over the waves and far away.
.
Chorus [repeated after each section]:
Over the waves, and o'er the surf,
To Hong Kong and Australia's turf,
The marshal commands and we all obey,
Over the waves and far away.
.
All skilled pilots who have a mind,
To serve with those of similar kind,
Come drift with them, and in jaegers slay,
Over the waves and far away.
.
No more from kaiju's roar retreat,
While Pentecost and Hansen beat,
The fearsome monsters every day,
Over the waves and far away.
