Hello! I am new to the Gilligan's Island fandom, but when I first saw the show I instantly fell in love. The goofiness of Gilligan, the seriousness and logicalness of the Professor, it was all just so perfectly random. Why not celebrate my newfound love with a story about the last survivor on the island? :)
Mary Ann tried to hold back tears as she shoveled the last scoop of dirt onto the newest grave, the grave of her late friend and brilliant actress, Ginger Grant. Five other headstones stared back at the now alone Kansas farm girl.
She couldn't hold them back any longer, and the tears fell, a shower of salt water falling on her cheeks. She sat down, still sobbing, and thought about her lost friends.
Mr. Howell had been the first to go. His age caught up with him, and in his last few moments of life, he told his wife to write everyone on the island into his will. His last words had been, "I am honored to know people like you. Thank you..."
Mrs. Howell left soon afterwards. She died from cancer, but everyone else was convinced that she died of a broken heart, and had not minded the thought of her passing. She was old, and she missed her husband terribly.
The Skipper and Gilligan died on the same day. There had been a terrible thunderstorm, and when they went out after it had passed to see what damage had taken place, a tree that had been badly broken during the storm fell on both of them, killing them instantly. While sad, the remaining three castaways were a little happy, knowing that Skipper and Gilligan wouldn't have to ever be separated.
The Professor was the second youngest to die, beaten by only Gilligan. He had only been in his mid-fifties. Jonathan Kincaid had decided to come back to the island. He had escaped the mental facility, claiming that he had been cured by the Good Lord. Sadly, he had not. Kincaid was more vicious than ever. When he came back to the island, he found Gilligan's headstone, and practically threw a fit once he realized that the prey he had been planning the perfect hunt for was already dead. In his fit of rage, he raised his rifle and aimed straight for Ginger's chest, but at the last minute, the Professor had jumped in the way of the bullet, and took the hit for her.
He died from blood loss, right in the girls' arms. It brought more tears to Mary Ann's eyes as she looked down and saw the blood stain on the front of her shirt, from where the Professor had been almost curled up on her chest.
Ginger's death, however, must have been the most tragic. After Kincaid committed suicide by hanging himself from the top of a cave, she slowly began to lose her sanity. It was soon becoming quite obvious that Ginger had developed schizophrenia, and she obediently followed the voices she heard. She did everything from trying to poison Mary Ann, to making dinner, to jumping of the hut roof because she thought she could fly.
It was the last on the list above that ended Ginger's life. After jumping from the hut and not getting severely injured, Ginger started to really believe that she could fly. One fateful morning, she climbed to the top of the tallest palm tree on the island and jumped. Mary Ann willed her mind to not bring up the gruesome images of Ginger's mutilated body.
Mary Ann looked at the setting sun, and she compared herself to it. Her happy mood had lessened over the years as her friends passed, and now it was completely gone, and she was alone. All alone.
The lone survivor.
