"Your eyes are like fire." Roy whispered reverently. They were lying on the couch in front of the fireplace ignoring the clock's chime marking time. First midnight, then one, two but neither had paid attention to it. When they'd first moved in Edward had griped about the courthouse clock keeping him up at night but now it was just background noise.
Although he'd had a tiring day at work, Ed fought the sleep trying to claim him. The romantic, soft side of their relationship only came out when the rest of the world was quiet and Ed didn't want to miss a second of it, even though come morning both of them would claim they didn't need stuff like that. But in this moment Roy was cradling his head gently, whispering endearments, running his hand softly down his chest, down, down, down…
Ed awoke with a start. He thought he'd heard a clock chiming three times but it was his imagination. As the dream slipped from him he felt an empty ache settle in him. One glance at the clock told him he still had an hour and a half before he had to be up but attempting to go back to sleep seemed futile. With a sigh he swung his legs off the bed and headed for the shower.
