Power Rangers are not my property.

She ran out to the balcony as soon as they started counting. It was New Year's Eve, another year done and a new one beginning. The whole SPD base was celebrating at a fancy hotel, looking forward to a year without Gruumm

She didn't know why she left so suddenly from the celebration, so quick that she still held a champagne flute in her hand. As it got closer to midnight, a panic started to rise in her stomach and she felt claustrophobic in the large, open ballroom.
8
She looked down at her dress, gold and fit for a princess. After living for so long on the streets, who would have imagined Z Delgado in anything other than combat boots. Now she was wearing strappy gold sandals that would make Cinderella green with envy.
7
She looked back at the ballroom, couples whirling around in merriment. She wondered how it all had happened. Her life was completely different than from one year ago.
6
Most New Year's Eve's were spent scrounging around after parties for food, there was always so much waste when the well-to-do celebrated. She and Jack would sneak from hotel to hotel, asking or bribing caterers for the extra food at events and sneaking out party favors for the poor to celebrate.
5
They would go back to their hideout and invite everyone they knew. Everyone would gorge on food after the fireworks and the ball had dropped. The party would last all day as they celebrated what little they had in their lives and hoped for a better new year.

Her thoughts returned back to the present and the view over the balcony. She looked at the city, lights in the windows looking like stars in the sky. All she could see was the people she had saved, all the good she had done by being apart of SPD. She didn't join for glory, for recognition, or because of duty. She joined SPD, to be able to do more, to try to make the world better as much as possible.
3
She didn't expect the other things when she joined, the friends, no the family she would gain. It was as dysfunctional as any other family with squabbles, disagreements, and fighting. But she knew that she would do anything for them.

She felt a tap on her shoulder. "Z, what are you doing out here?"
She looked back to see Bridge, standing behind her in a tuxedo. "Sorry, I needed a little air."
"I was worried about you," his gloved hands kept moving around nervously, "You don't want to miss all the fun do you?"
They turned around to hear the shouts of "Happy New Year!" as the clock struck midnight realizing that they were alone on the balcony.

They looked at each other, waiting for the other to do something. Both looked nervous, awkward, and unsure.
"Um," Bridge scratched the back of his head, "I think there's some kind of traditional thing we're supposed to do now."
"Yeah," she replied.
"Yeah," he repeated.
"Oh jeez," she sighed and approached him. "Let's get this over with."
Z stood on her tippy-toes so as to reach the taller ranger. It took a clumsy five seconds before their faces were anywhere near each other. She looked into his eyes and touched her lips to his.

Gruumm fell to his knees as Cruger lopped off his other horn.

"Whoah," Z exclaimed as they broke the kiss. "What was that?"
"Psychic feedback," Bridge had a goofy grin on his face.
They turned to the balcony to see the fireworks exploding in the sky.
Happy New Year everyone!
