Something Eternal
*************
He must have shown her something eternal.

The little girl's face is streaked with tears. They pour from crystalline blue eyes that hold shattered innocence and the first realization of what death is. Her hair is soft, pink, and disarranged. There are rose petals in it.
He would have liked to be a prince for her, but that was impossible now. He might be able to help her though, save her as he had once saved so many others. She might then save him. What are you doing here?
She kicks at the gravel with her shoes. One of them is untied.
Are you the Grim Reaper? She asks it without fear. Unnatural. Children shouldn't speak of death in that tone.

You're pretty.
He smiled for her. I can show you something eternal.
What's that?
Slowly, he placed the headphones on her ears.
This is the song that doesn't end./Yes, it goes on and on, my friend./Some people started singing it,/Not knowing what it was,/And they'll continue singing it forever, just because/This is the song that doesn't it . . .

Couldn't resist the temptation to write this. Every so often I get an idea that I have to write immediately and get out of my system or I can't write anything serious. This temptation struck me about the same time I joined fanfiction.net, but I only post it now.--Lady Belegwen Lightningblade
