Same Script, Different Cast

By Strawberry Gashes

"Look, Betty, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it to end like this, but, we just aren't meant to be."

The blonde Hufflepuff gives him a deadly glare through her tear filled blue eyes and walks off. At least he has the decency to look sorry. He stares as she walks away and then rejoins his friends. They don't even ask anymore.

I sigh as I return to my book, not giving the matter a second thought. Until somebody plops down next to me.

"Hey sweetheart!"

It's him.

"Leave me alone!" I snap.

"What's the matter dearest? Don't you love me anymore?"

"I'm afraid I never did. See, you're a hypocrite, I don't associate with hypocrites."

"How am I a hypocrite?"

"We just aren't meant to be? Please! Since when was any girl more than an easy fuck for you?"

He looks hurt, but I know it's just a façade.

"You sting, baby, you sting!"

I glare at him.

"You disgust me."

This really seems to have hit a nerve.

"Well, it's a crying shame honey, because, believe me or not, I really do love you!"

He gets up and leaves and I sit petrified for a moment.

I then shake it off.

He couldn't have meant it.

But then again, maybe he did… I always have noticed his attentions. That half a glance my way whenever he was near me. The way he always said hello, even though he was with one of his lady friends. But it couldn't be.

He doesn't love and the whole of Hogwarts knows it.

Ever since his parents died, he doesn't love. That meaning is foreign to him. Even his best friend knows it.

Yet he insists. Day after day, month after month… Hoping I would give in.

But I know better.

Because I've seen what happens to those who fall for his sugary words and heart-melting smile. He spends one night with them, and leaves them longing for more. I even heard of a few that got pregnant, but that is not the issue here.

I can't become like them. I simply refuse to do that. My pride won't let me giggle and blush in his presence. My pride won't let me be a one-night stand he promises the world to.

I won't be just another passing star in his saga called love.

I won't play a part I know I won't keep.

I won't be a name in a long list of conquests.

Same script, different cast … I saw it happen a million times.

I won't see it happening to me.
