Just some stupid idea I had for a story during lunch. I really like writing about the four houses and stuff so, here we go.
Common Misconceptions.
There are many stories told about the sorting at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. If you have an older sibling that went there, they might tell you about fighting off a dragon, pulling a rabbit out of a hat, or numerous other things. Most people are calmed to know that a hat makes the decision for you. It just tells you where to go. If you are loyal and hardworking, you go to Hufflepuff. If you have a thirst for knowledge and the need to prove yourself, you'll be placed in Ravenclaw. If you are courageous and always stand up for whats right, you'll go to Gryffindor. If you do what ever it takes to get things done and are cunning, you get placed in Slytherin.
Most are nervous about the sorting because of views people have of some houses. People assume that if you are in Hufflepuff, you're a pushover and if you're in Ravenclaw, you're a bookworm. They say all Slytherins are evil, and Gryffindors are over protective and act before they think. That is why some dislike the sorting very much.
But of course, there are some instances where the hat may not know where to place you. Say for instance, your loyal to your friends, but not your family. If you'll stand up for what you believe in, but are afraid of what people will think of you. If you want to prove your worth something, but don't do what it takes to get things done. The Sorting Hat would not know where to place you if you didn't have one thing everyone has. Fear.
Slytherins are afraid of the unknown. They like to know what they are getting into before they do anything, They'll wait on the outside, until its safe to enter. They're always taking precautions. Not knowing whats going to happen. They would prefer to be in control of their lives. Therefore, you would be placed in Slytherin if you feared not knowing.
Hufflepuffs are afraid of being alone. They feel comfort in having people around them. They like knowing they have someone to fall back on, which is why they are caring and forgiving. They don't like being left out, because they are scared they will be left behind. The Sorting Hat would place you in Hufflepuff if you feared being alone.
Ravenclaws are afraid of fear itself. Being afraid of fear shows weakness, and you don't know how to conquer something. They are supposed to know all the answers and fear doesn't hold any. It causes people to make irrational decisions, not always the 'smart' one, which causes them to do the wrong thing. If you were afraid of fear, you would be placed in Ravenclaw.
A common misconception is that Gryffindors have no fear. They are known for being the brave and courageous house. They are not supposed to have any fears. Its quite the opposite really. Having courage and being brave just means being able to face your fears to do what you have to, and in most cases it's the 'right' thing. Doing something, no matter how dangerous to yourself or how much you don't like it, to protect someone else is what makes you a Gryffindor. Putting others before you. You would be placed in Gryffindor if you knew how to conquer your fears.
The best house may not be the best house for you.
Would you be willing to risk your life for others?
To hurt someone else if it meant getting what you want?
To do whatever it takes to find the answer?
Would you be able to face ridicule because it meant standing up for your friends?
Tell me.
