Me: Hello all! There were a lot of mistakes in the old version of this story, and I wanted to fix it, as well as add a few things. That being said, hopefully this version won't have any more errors. But then again, I am not perfect so there might be a few. That being said…
Disclaimer: I do not own Soul Eater.
…
Perfection. Everyone wants it in something. Family… School… Appearance… Most, if not all want their appearance to be perfect. Hair, face, body, doesn't matter what part of them, they just want to change it to be "perfect". Some to be perfect to themselves, others for a person they love, some for society.
Death the Kid was no different. What could be wrong with the young reaper? He had pale skin and symmetrical golden eyes. His body was also symmetrical, his clothing always symmetrical. His hair was also symmetrical, his bangs cut down symmetrically to the last strand. So what was wrong? There were three white stripes on one side of his black hair.
Kid gripped the counter as he stared into the mirror; glaring at the trash he called hair. He watched as black hair dye slid down his hair and cheek. For the eighth time that week, he had tried to dye the white stripes away, and for the eighth time that week, he failed. Frustration boiled in his chest as he threw the empty bottle of hair dye to the wall, the force causing the wall to crack and the bottle to explode.
"Asymmetrical Garbage!" He yelled, starting to shake in anger. Another thing Kid would change about himself would be his obsession for everything to be symmetrical. If he could get rid of his obsession, both of his problems would be solved and he would be able to live peacefully with the dreaded white stripes. His love for his obsession had caused him to hate himself.
He took a deep breath, trying his best to calm himself. He jumped slightly though when he heard a knock at the door, cursing slightly.
"Hey Kid?" It was Liz.
"What is it?" He asked, his voice tight as he tried to sound calm.
"Someone is at the door for you. Is everything okay?" She asked.
"Yeah fine. Tell them I'm not available at the moment. I don't want to see anyone." He said.
"O-Oh… okay… Are you sure you're okay?"
"Yes Liz."
"Okay"
Kid waited till he heard the footsteps fade away before letting out an angry growl. He took another deep breath, this time letting out a shaky breath. He stared at the mirror for a few minutes, the frustration in his chest causing him to let out a small sob, tears forming. He almost screamed, choosing to punch the mirror instead, the glass shattering and scattering across the floor and counter. More sobs escaped, and he let the tears fall.
…
Soul walked up to a symmetrical mansion, shifting in excitement as he knocked on the door. He ran a hand through his hair as he waited, smiling. He made sure his hair was still cool, patting his clothes down from the ride on his motorcycle. He looked up when the door opened, deflating slightly. To his disappointment, Liz had opened the door.
"Oh! Hey Soul." She greeted
"Liz" He nodded, "Is Kid home?"
"Yeah hold on."
Soul shifted, waiting for a few minutes. He lit up again as the door opened, only to be disappointed.
"Sorry Soul, he doesn't want to see anyone." Liz said.
He frowned a bit and sighed sadly. He rose a brow when he noticed Liz was beckoning him to come inside, biting her lip in worry. He did so, looking around. He frowned more when he noticed a few things were off and a bit messy.
"What's wrong?" He asked, something not feeling right. He shifted and frowned more, wanting nothing more to go upstairs to check on Kid.
"It's Kid as you can probably tell. I think he's having one of those 'I'm asymmetrical garbage' days. He seemed annoyed or frustrated when I went to get him for you."
Soul sighed, running a hand through his hair, this time out of worry. He knew Kid had these days and it was usually no problem, but recently, he had been having these days a lot more. He was hoping today he would be fine.
"Besides leaving things asymmetrical, has he said anything? Or change in any way? Did someone say something to him?"
"Not that I know of or can think of." She said, shaking her head and biting her nails nervously.
He nodded, about to ask her something else when the sound of glass shattering cut him off.
"Kid!" Both weapons yelled, bolting upstairs and up to the reaper's room. Upon arrival, both were shocked when they looked around. Books and paper were thrown around, some scattered on the floor. The paintings were all crooked, one laying on the floor and another with a large cut through it. The bed was messy, the sheets hanging off and the pillows thrown on floor and against the walls. Soul could hear small whimpers coming from the bathroom, causing him to tense and his concern to grow.
"Liz, go downstairs. I'll talk to him okay?" he said, looking at her. She was shaking slightly, clearly concerned. She nodded hesitantly, looking around a bit more before actually leaving the room, closing the door softly behind her.
He walked to the bathroom, opening the door and narrowing his eyes cautiously as he saw the damage. The mirror had been shattered, pieces of glass scattered on the counter and floor. He walked further in, careful with the glass. Soft sobs came from his right, and when he looked over, his eyes softened. There sat Kid, curled up and hugging his knees, only wearing an oversized black shirt. There were several cuts on one of his hands, blood dripping down slowly. Black blobs of liquid were in his hair, dripping down and falling on his cheeks. Upon further inspection, Soul noticed a few small cuts on the reaper's legs, a piece of glass stuck in one cut.
"Stupid Asymmetrical Garbage… Stupid symmetrical obsession…" He heard the other whimper.
"Kid…" He said softly and cautiously, not wanting to startle the other. The reaper's head shot up, his eyes widening. His eyes were red, tears falling and mixing with the black liquid that also fell. He quickly covered his mouth as he tried to hold a sob back, squeezing his eyes shut. Soul quickly wrapped his arms around him, pulling him close to his chest and holding him gently. He rubbed his back gently, listening as the reaper let his sobs go, crying into his chest. Soul kept quiet, wanting to give Kid as much time as he needed to let everything out and to calm down. After a few minutes, Kid had finally calmed down, falling quiet as he relaxed in Soul's arms, nuzzling him a bit. Soul, taking this as a sign that he was alright, scooped him up, carrying him out of the bathroom as to avoid any more injuries. He sat him on the bed gently, making his legs hang over the edge before pulling back a bit.
"Stay here." He said softly. He walked back into the bathroom, grabbing a few towels and a medical kit before walking back out. Kid watched quietly, letting his hands rest in his lap. Soul sat down on the floor in front of him, grabbing some disinfectant and pouring it into one of the towels. He started cleaning up his legs, being as gentle as possible when it came to pulling the glass out. Kid stayed quiet for a bit, wincing every so often. He took a deep breath and finally found the right words to start with.
"What are you doing here?" He asked, his voice slightly raspy from his sobs. Soul looked up and smiled a bit.
"I wanted to see you." He said simply, starting to wrap the cuts up. He stood up, leaning down a bit to look into his eyes, sad he couldn't prevent the sad look in his golden eyes. He gently reached up and brushed a tear away, Kid leaning into his hand a bit. He smiled before moving his hand away, looking down at the injured hand.
"Let me see your hand." He said softly, grabbing a thrown chair and placing it in front of him, sitting on it. Kid complied, lifting his hand up for him, wincing. Soul gently took it and started cleaning the blood off, disinfecting it. He felt bad each time he heard Kid hiss or wince in pain, but continued regardless, wrapping it up so the wounds wouldn't reopen. He lifted it a bit and kissed his knuckles, looking at Kid. He chuckled a bit when he saw the reaper's cheeks turn a slight pink, his eyes avoiding the weapon's. He placed the hand back on Kid's lap before grabbing another towel, looking up at the black mess on his hair and cheek.
"Were you trying to dye your hair again?" He asked, even though he already knew the answer.
"Yeah… Why…?" Kid murmured.
"I don't like it." He said simply, leaning up and wiping the dye off. He thought he would have a harder time, but the dye seemed to slide right off. He made sure to clean everything off, gently wiping his cheek as well.
"It's asymmetrical." Kid said, as if that answered everything in the world. He looked down at his hands, gripping his shirt a bit. Soul looked at him a bit before smiling. He gently lifted his chin and kissed him, moving his hands to hold the reaper's. When he pulled back, he laughed a bit, Kid's face turning red in embarrassment.
"You know what's also asymmetrical about you?" He asked, holding his hands.
"What?" Kid asked annoyed, looking down at himself real quick as a frown formed. He looked at Soul, ready to shove him away and start crying again.
"Your boyfriend." He said, smiling warmly. Kid's eyes widened a bit, his cheeks turning red.
"You're my boyfriend." He mumbled, smiling a bit.
"Yes I am. I'm asymmetrical, but would you change anything about me?" He asked, his smile widening a bit.
"No… No I wouldn't. I love you the way you are." He said. Kid couldn't help but smile, relaxing.
"Exactly, because I'm cool that way." Soul grinned. Kid laughed at that, wrapping his arms around his neck and leaning in, giving him a quick kiss. Soul chuckled and gently wrapping his arms around his waist, picking him up and sitting on the bed, leaning against the wall and holding Kid close.
"Thank you." Kid said, looking up at him.
"You're welcome. But for what?" He asked, kissing his head.
"For making me feel better of course."
"That's what cool boyfriends are for. It's my job to make sure you're happy."
Kid blushed and nodded, nuzzling into him contently. After a few minutes of just sitting there, Kid looked up at him.
"So you came here to see me." He said, more of a statement then a question.
"Yup. I wanted to see you, but I also wanted to ask you something." Soul said.
"Which is…?"
"Would you like to spend Christmas with me and the rest of the gang? Liz and Patty are obviously invited, but I just wanted to personally come and ask you." He chuckled. Kid blushed and giggled a bit, leaning up and kissing him again, catching Soul off guard.
"Of course. I'd love to join you." He said, smirking slightly as he poked at Soul's cheeks, which were a slight red. Soul laughed and grinned.
"Perfect, just like you."
Kid smiled and fully relaxed against Soul, nuzzling into the crook of his neck contently. Soul smiled and rubbed his back, closing his eyes as he relaxed against the wall. Before he knew it, Kid had fallen asleep. He chuckled and shook his head a bit.
"I guess I'll join you for a nap." He mumbled. Soon, he had fallen asleep, not even hearing Liz when she stuck her head in, asking if they were both alright.
….
Christmas Day
Patience… Something Soul didn't have today as he waited for the hours to go by. He sighed a bit, going through everything in his head to make sure he had remembered everything. He nodded a bit to himself, looking around at the work him and Maka did. They had been decorating the house for the party, Soul taking care of the dining hall and a few of the decorations that hung up. Normally he would have left all the work up to Maka, but today he had to put some effort in. Today he decided to make a bold move and he wanted to make sure it was perfect. At least as perfect as it could be.
"Hey Soul! Where did you want the mistletoe to be hung up?" Maka asked, poking her head into the living room. Soul looked at her.
"Oh. Here let me hang it up." He said, holding a hand out for the plant. Maka handed it to him and followed as he walked to the opening to the living room from the hallway, grabbing a chair.
"So you're really going to do it today?" She asked, smiling as she watched him hang the mistletoe up.
"Yup. It'll be cool." He grinned, hopping down. She giggled a bit and went to the kitchen.
"Should I plan to spend the night at Chrona's today?" She asked.
"If you want to. Women and their sick fantasies." He mumbled, sitting on the couch.
"Maka…."
"Huh?"
"CHOP!"
"Ah what the hell‽"
…
Kid smiled as he walked towards Maka's apartment, holding a nicely wrapped box in his hands, Liz and Patty walking on either side behind him holding trays of food. He wore a nice red shirt with a black over top and a nice pair of dress pants for the holidays but still kept the rings for some normality.
"It's finally Christmas eve." Patty said happily, bouncing around as they walked, Liz laughing a bit.
"That's right sis."
"Thanks to this holiday, Father granted us a break so we can enjoy it." Kid said, looking back at them. "That means we can relax from hunting Kishin souls for now, which I am really grateful for."
"Hey sis! That means now you don't have to be so scared by scary and creepy monsters for a while!" Patty said, Liz smiling.
"That's right Patty. Means I can kick back and relax. It also means Kid can hang out with his boyfriend for a while." She teased.
Kid's cheeks grew warm and he glared back at them, causing the twin pistols to giggle.
"Well you can't blame me for being happy about spending time with him. I only see him when Father decides to put us on a mission together or on the weekends when there are no missions available." He said, trying to get rid of the blush. He hated blushing, they were always asymmetrical.
The weapons just giggled again, the reaper huffing in defeat.
"Well break or not, we're going to Maka's Christmas." Liz said, patting his head a bit.
Kid smiled and nodded, walking up to the door, Patty doing him the favor of knocking the door. Kid shifted a bit, getting excited on the inside as he stayed calm on the outside. The door opened and he smiled warmly. To his disappointment it was Maka who stood there and held the door open, but that didn't mean he was going to be rude.
"Hey guys! Come in, come in!" She said, backing up to let them in. Kid nodded and walked in, his two weapons following.
"Hello Maka." He said, heading into the dining hall to put the food down on the table. He walked up to it and sat it perfectly in the middle before looking around, his eyes widening slightly.
"Hey Maka, we're the first ones here right?" He called, staring at the table.
"Yup, eight on the dot. The others should be here soon." She called back from the kitchen. He nodded and shifted slightly. Both sides had the chairs perfectly aligned, the silverware placed perfectly symmetrical to each other, the candles burnt down to the same height.
"Then who set the table?" He asked, crossing his arms as he thought about it, Maka walking out, looking at him curiously.
"Oh! Soul did. He wouldn't let me touch anything in here and insisted that he set the table. Weird right? He's usually so lazy and playing videogames." She said a knowing smile on her face. She sat down two bowls on each side of the food Kid brought in, putting them on the plates that were already set there. She walked back into the kitchen, Liz and Patty giggling with her as Kid stood alone, a blush forming on his cheeks. He stared at the set up, smiling more as he felt a pair of warm arms wrap around his waist, pulling him into a warm chest.
"Hey." A low voice said, the owner nuzzling his shoulder a bit.
"Hey." Kid answered back, hugging the arms contently. "Everything is absolutely perfect," He said, leaning into him.
"Maybe not. There's probably something off." Soul mumbled, too content with the way they were to care.
"Nonsense! I find it perfectly symmetrical." He said. He smiled as he quickly fixed one of the forks, noticing it was slightly off, teasing Soul a bit. He received a chuckle from the albino, who was humming contently. Turning around in his arms, Kid reached up and hugged his neck, looking up at him. "Thank you Soul."
"It was nothing." Soul said, grinning a bit. He leaned in a bit, kissing his forehead before lowering and kissing his lips, the reaper smiling and kissing back. Kid hummed happily as they both enjoyed their small moment.
"No need to worry anymore! It is I, BlackStar who has arrived!" A loud voice came from the door.
"So much for the cool moment." Soul sighed, letting Kid go as he looked over. Kid rolled his eyes and crossed his arms, sitting on the couch.
Tsubaki walked in, sighing. "BlackStar, you shouldn't kick the door. You're going to break it and then you'll have to pay for a new one." She said.
"Oh. You're right Tsubaki; my strength would rip the door right off!" He laughed, making Tsubaki sigh again.
"Yeah… that's true." She said, "Hello Soul, Kid." She smiled sweetly.
"Hello Tsubaki." Kid greeted, smiling back.
Soul walked over to BlackStar and gave him a high five, grinning. "Sup."
"So you doing it today?" He asked, grinning back. Soul nodded and both bumped fists, Kid blinking in confusion.
"Oh! We bumped into someone while walking here." Tsubaki said softly. Chrona walked in, looking around shyly as he smiled a bit.
"H-Hi everyone…" He said softly. He smiled a bit more as Ragnorak formed and rested on his head, his mouth forming.
"Alright food!" He cheered, his little arms waving around happily.
"Hello Chrona, Maka's in the kitchen." Kid said, motioning to said room. He chuckled a bit when he noticed the small blush that formed, watching as he made his way there.
"Thanks…" He mumbled as he disappeared into the room. Ragnorak was complaining, only to quiet down after a few minutes. Kid laughed and relaxed into the couch, sighing contently. He felt the right of him dip a bit, his smile growing when he felt a familiar arm wrap around him. He smiled and leaned against him.
"So, Soul, Kid, are the two of you going to be spending more time with each other now that we have a break?" Tsubaki asked, sitting across from them on the other couch. Kid opened his mouth to answer when Soul chuckled.
"Oh yeah. Maka said she'd be with Chrona a lot so I'll be spending this whole week with him." He said, pulling him closer. Kid blushed and smiled.
"Liz and Patty are going into the city to visit some old friend's as well, so I won't have to worry about them." He added, smiling as he felt Soul squeeze him a bit.
Tsubaki giggled a bit and nodded. "That's good." She leaned in a bit, "and this time I'll make sure BlackStar doesn't interrupt anything." She whispered, winking. Both Soul and Kid blushed, shivering at an old memory.
"T-Thank you Tsubaki" Kid said, laughing a bit.
"Of course" She giggled.
Soul laughed and shifted a bit, using his free hand to grab Kid's. They sat contently, talking about random things like school and old missions they had went on. At some point, Chrona and Maka had joined them, Liz and Patty feeding Ragnorak.
Kid looked around and smiled, enjoying the company of his friends, his boyfriend and even laughed at some of BlackStar's ridiculous stories. In all, Death the Kid was perfectly happy where he was right now. The best thing was the fact that the entire room they were in wasn't symmetrical at all. He wasn't panicking to fix everything; he didn't even feel the urge. He wasn't freaking out at all and he liked it. For once, he felt normal, like he didn't have the mental obsession for symmetry. He felt like a normal, teenage boy. He knew the others did too as they continued talking, noticing how they all relaxed. They were always like this when they had a break and were with each other. It was one of his favorite times to be in.
"Hey Kid." Soul said softly.
"Hmm?" Kid looked up at him.
"I need to get something from my room. Want to come with?" He asked, grinning a bit. Kid laughed and nodded, getting up and following as he lead the way. He blinked a bit when Soul stopped, turning to him and smiling warmly. He smiled back regardless, giving him a questioning look. Soul pointed upwards, grinning a bit.
Kid grew more confused, noticing everyone had gathered around to watch them. He looked up and his face went red, noticing a small plant that hung above them. He looked back at Soul, his eyes widening a bit when he saw him on his knee. Never in a hundred years did Kid think he would be in this situation, but here they were, under a mistletoe, Soul on one knee, holding his hands up for his. His blush got worse, if it was possible, as he placed his hands in his.
"Death the Kid, I love you." He said, kissing the reaper's knuckles. "I think you're cool the way you are, and I don't care if you're obsessed with symmetry. I know you love me the way I am and I plan to help you with it. Either to get rid of it or to fix everything you don't have a panic attack. It's a lot of effort, but its effort I'm willing to put in. Death the Kid…" Soul pulled a black box out of his pocket, Kid's eyes widening as he felt tears forming. "Will you marry me?"
Time seemed to slow down to Kid. Maka seemed proud of Soul. BlackStar just stood there smiling while Tsubaki was clapping in joy. Chrona was smiling, while Ragnorak was actually quiet. In the corner of his eye, he could see Liz crying a little while Patty jumped up and down. He looked back at Soul and smiled before a few tears fell down his cheek. He looked what was in the box and laughed a bit, noticing that it wasn't one golden ring. It was two black rings with three white stripes on one of them.
"Of course I will." He said, lunging at him and hugging him happily, kissing him in the process. He heard his group of friends cheer, clapping as BlackStar 'yahooed'.
Soul laughed and kissed back, holding him close. When they pulled apart, Soul took his hands and slid both rings on.
"Merry Christmas Death the Kid."
"Merry Christmas Soul Evans."
Both smiled and kissed again.
…
I know I know, it's not Christmas anymore. But the original was made for Christmas so don't judge me. Also, it's a little OOC and it probably sucks, but I tried! If you enjoyed it please leave a review? I want to know what you think! Please? Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
