In the end, it is Minako who goes into Shinjiro's room to go through his things.

Her relationship with him, as short-lived as it was, doesn't change the fact that she feels awkward in here. Like she's treading upon sacred ground. Like she's not supposed to be here. It feels like there's ghosts lingering, watching her, judging her, silently pleading for her to just leave.

Minako takes a few steps toward the bed. With trembling fingers, she touches the pillow. It's still warm, somehow, just slightly. Shinjiro must have been lying here, right until he left. Did he know what was going to happen? Maybe. Did he know he'd die by taking a bullet for Ken? She isn't sure.

To hold back her tears, Minako sinks her teeth into her lower lip. The trembling has reached her legs, and she has to sink to the floor (not the bed, no, never the bed, not now) in order to prevent her crashing to the ground. Her face ends up pressed into the sheets on the edge of the bed.

It smells like him.

Quick as she went down, she springs back up and steps swiftly to the desk. She shoves her hands in, and falters. Her fingers curl around rough red material, and the brush against his battle weapon. Again, she bites her lip and prays for her tears to just go away. They still sting her eyes, annoyingly.

Minako grabs the box, and leaves.
