This is just a realistic take on the public repercussions of Victor and Yuri's relationship. Not everyone is happy about it. But Yuri is convinced their love will survive.

I don't own YOI, obviousl.y
'Victor'.
Yuri was shocked to see his fiancé crying. He had seen him cry only once before, and he had vowed he would never let him cry again. 'Victor', what is the matter?'
'I...I was trying to sleep, Yuri. But I couldn't. I...I keep dreaming that they've been able to take you away from me.' His entire body shook with fright. Yuri was horrified to see how pale he looked.
'It's is okay, Victor.' Yuri said, embracing the older man.'No one can ever take me away from you.'
'Yuri...' Victor then got up and walked up to a shelf. 'Victor', what are you doing?'
'Look at this. It came in my mail.'
Victor held up a piece of paper with the words DIE FAG written on it.
'Oh Victor!' Yuri said, and reached for the other man's hand. 'Don't let those morons get to you. You are one of the world's best skaters, and you are mine. That's all that matters.'
'Yuri...I remember long ago when I was eighteen, when my relationship with another man came in the open for the first time. I received many many letters like this. I...it was like hell. I took to drinking and drugs, to forget it. I almost gave up skating. However, eventually I managed to develop a thick skin, and not care about what people say. But Yuri, no one's ever mattered to me the way you do. Ever since I received a letter like this after a long time, I've become paranoid they'd take me away from you. I don't want to lose you, Yuri. Ever.'
'Victor'. Yuri said, teary-eyed. He then kissed him. 'You'll never lose me.'
Yuri was no stranger to hate himself. While the overwhelming majority of their fans were supportive of their relationship, the fact that both Japan and Russia were not too forward when it came to same sex relationships was inescapable. He knew earlier might have had been bothered by what people said about him, but that was no longer the case. He had grown wiser and more confident. Both of their families and friends were really supportive, and why did the opinions of random strangers matter when they had each other, and their loved ones? He had to convey that to Victor.
'My ship has sailed.' Phichit exclaimed, after Yuri and Victor had been pronounced man and husband, much to the surprise and confusion of a bunch of people. Not everyone was familiar with the fandom related term. One person who did understand was Yuri Plisetsky, who laughed and cheered as the newly-wed couple kissed. All the skaters where there. JJ and his wife whom he had married just a week ago, Otabek, Chris, Minami, Coach Yakov, Minako, Yuuko, Takeshi...all of them were there, as were a large number of their fans.
Yuri and Victor looked at each other. While they loved each other, they knew that their union would not have legal recognition in either of their countries. While that knowledge saddened the couple, it only strengthened their feelings and their determination to be proud and unabashed about their love.
'If anyone talks shit about this again, tell me. I'll punch them in the face.' Yurio had said when Yuri had confided in him about Victor's troubles. Yuri smiled at the thought. He really hoped it wouldn't come to that, though he knew he could count on Yurio if that did happen. He knew first hand what it was like to be on the receiving end of his name sake's wrath.
'You'll never lose me, Victor.' Yuri said. 'Never ever.'
