Emmett McCarty walked through the halls of Forks high school. This place was just as bad as when he had left before the summer, now he was back and it was exactly the same, dull and boring. Yet Emmett was happy, not so much about the whole school thing, but because most of the time he was happy. It's just who he was.

He walked the halls alone right now, not that he hadn't got any friends. In fact Emmett was one of the most popular guys in school being athletic, charismatic and hot, he just hadn't found any of his many friends yet as he'd only entered the building. He scanned the crowds.

He caught sight of one of the guys on the football team he could go talk to, but saw he was talking to someone and didn't really want to interrupt. Then he saw who he was talking to. Jasper Hale.

If you didn't know Jasper and seeing him for the first time you'd immediately think jock. He just had that look; he was tall, muscled and really good looking. His deep green eyes, wavy blond hair and charismatic personality just added to the attraction. He was all those things but not many of the other things associated with jocks. For instance, he was in no way a man slut only interested in getting into girls pants. Quite the opposite actually as Jasper was one of the few openly gay guys at Forks High.

That didn't mean he was unpopular either though. No one ever really bothered him about it. Number one because last year he almost got expelled for putting some guy in hospital with a broken wrist, three cracked ribs, a broken nose and a black eye, all for calling him a fag. Number two because he was one of the most effortlessly cool people in school, he was funny, charming and easy to talk to. He was a good guy to; he wasn't up himself and never was mean to the other kids like some of the popular people.

Now Emmett really didn't want to go over. It wasn't that he had a problem with Jasper, not at all. He actually thought that he was pretty cool and all the times that they'd talked they got on pretty well, easily finding things they had in common. The first time they'd talked he thought it would be awkward, but it was the opposite, as they laughed and joked together.

But being around Jasper always made him feel…nervous? If that was the right word, it was hard to explain and it confused him…alot. He liked being around him, maybe a little too much and his stomach always got weird when he was near. Like it was right now.

He decided on walking past and meeting up with someone else, I mean he wouldn't want to intrude on their conversation, right?

As he walked past though he couldn't resist a strange urge to glance back at them. Just as he did, Jasper looked up meeting his eyes. He smiled at him before looking back to Mike and continuing their conversation.

Emmett suddenly felt a little warmer and a little happier as he walked down the hallway. He just couldn't explain it and for some reason that made him a little worried to, anxious even. He'd never really been confused by his feelings before mostly because there wasn't much to be confused about. He was happy when good things happened, sad when bad things happened and angry when people where assholes. Not much to be confused about. He'd heard love was confusing, not that he would know. He'd had girlfriends sure, quite a lot actually and he'd cared about them but he couldn't say he'd loved them.

But whatever this was, was definitely confusing.
