(This is partway through the story, so I'm sorry if you feel like
you've just missed something, but at the moment there is nothing for you
to miss. Will and Jack are standing outside the cell of a prison in a port
town and they are speaking to the sole resident of the only cell. That's
about all you need to know. They get talking about the past.)
Will tells the girl his tale of the crossing from England, then
Jack finishes his story of being marooned and turns back to the girl in the
cell. She still has her head bowed with her arms and legs crossed, leaning
against the wall. The meager light of the torch beside her leaves her face
in darkness.
"You are not the only one to have run-ins with Barbossa,
Captain Sparrow."
She spat out the words, much like even the name "Barbossa" left a bad
taste in her mouth.
"You and your friend have lost things that can be regained. A ship
and love, both within your reach. I on the other hand..." she took a few steps
toward the bars of the cell. "I have lost something, it was taken from me by
Barbossa and his crew of heathens. It is something that is out of my reach now.
Five years ago, what must have been a short time after you were left on that
island, I had a life. I used to live in a tiny port town, it was just a settlement,
really. My father worked as a farmer and I had three siblings. One night I was out
by the docks, admiring the moon and the stars. A thick fog started to roll in, so I
got up to head back home, and then I heard it. The first shots of cannons. The
Black Pearl was advancing and nothing could stop it. We had no fort, no soldiers,
barely any weapons...we never stood a chance..." The girl turned back to the wall
and gazed blankly out the window. "My family ran into the forest, it was the only
place left to go, but they followed us. They hunted us down as our homes and crops
burned. They took anything of value and left the rest to the flames. The pirates
killed my mother, father, and my three younger siblings. I was alone and when they
found me, I pleaded for my life." She shakes her head and sighs. "I was taken back
to that godforsaken ship with two other boys my age. We were forced to work, forced
to be part of the crew. We did all the work no one else would, so they wouldn't
kill us. But it didn't matter. The other two didn't make it through the first year."
She crossed her arms again and continued, "I wasn't a prisoner, I was made to be
part of them. I was there when they took that chest of gold." She puts her arm on the
sill of the barred window. "What they took from you may be regained, but what they took
from me....they took my life!" She sticks her arm out the window into the night. It
reveals the arm of a skeleton with a few shreds of a sleeve around it. She looks at Will
and Jack with a broken and tortured expression on her face.
(So what do you think? This is just a little preview of my ideas for a story. I'm not
sure if I should write the rest. Leave me a comment if you liked it and think I should.
Also, any questions you have so that I'll be able to answer them in the rest of the tale.
Thanks for reading. - Nevithiel)
