The Perfect One

How to Train Your Dragon 4thYr Mini Anniversary Fanfic

It is a glorious cool evening on Dragon's Edge, the Gang are all individually enjoying the evening doing their own thing. Tuffnut for once was not with his twin sister and was casually strolling through the woods thinking about how his sister had been acting a little odd of late. Secretive, quiet and absent. He'd be fine with most of that but it was the quite part that plagued at the corners of his mind.

Just as his thoughts combed through the strange events between him and his sister of late he spotted Snotlout knelt by a bush by a shimmering river. His mind had him so distracted that at first he strolled right on by…he then stopped as he saw Snotlout out of the corner of his eye. Turning back he knelt down beside his friend and peered through the bushes to see what had Snotlout so entranced that he hadn't even noticed him yet.

"Ooooh! Now I get it!" He whispered as he saw what Snotlout had been gazing at.

Snotlout jumped as Tuff spoke breaking the spell that had him almost hypnotized, almost drooling in fact to the point he hadn't realised Tuff was knelling right next to him.

"Tuff get out!" Snotlout tried to shove the halfwit out of the way and soon the boys were each haggling for more room behind the bush and a better view.

It could be said that they knew they shouldn't be looking, it was rude, and a little perverted.

Still they each knelt quietly shoving a pushing each other baying for a better view of Astrid as she playfully bathed in the river just beyond the other side of the bush where the two teenage boys knelt in secret.

"Come on Stormfly you love the water!" Astrid splashed her Deadly Nadder dragon with a wave of water and the dragon gurgled a laugh in response before flicking her wing back at her rider and completely dousing her win a tidal wave. Now generally this wasn't anything new or unusual. However it was for the cooling day and the state of undress that drew the boy's avid competitive attention.

For Astrid was semi clothed with cool spring water flowing across her smooth skin and trailing though her flaxen hair. It enticed such wild images in both boy's mind at the gorgeous sight of their friend. A friend whom had she known of them would surely have turned them to stone with her furious glare then likely kill them on the spot. The boys continued to stare despite this threat, unaware they too were being watched.

Directly behind them Hiccup had also been passing by a cluster of fire wood twigs in his arms. Toothless, the beloved Night Fury dragon was ever at his friend's side until he saw a Fireworm Dragon and bounded off to play. Pouncing just out of earshot when Hiccup saw the boys. He dropped the twigs in a pile and headed over to them. Standing directly behind them he soon saw what they were looking at…

…and he was furious.

"Just what are you two doing?" He asked tersely, finding it hard to contain his disapproval.

Both Snotlout and Tuffnut jumped. Startled to be cough and even a little bit worried this new comer would pose an even greater threat to their chances of continuing to see Astrid bathing. After all it was only a small bush. Getting more crowded by the minute!

Tuff was the first to recover, he turned to face his compadre and tried to act innocent. An impossible feat for any Thorstonton if you'd asked Hiccup.

"Oh, hey, Hiccup my fine fellow…what…what …are…we…."

Tuff trailed off almost acting like if he took long enough that Hiccup would get bored and leave. Fat chance of that. Every cell in his body screamed to defend and protect Astrid. Even if it was just from the some-what harmless brutes before him. Folding his arms he rolled his eyes at his friend's antics and set a firm stare at them both. Both his foot and metal leg braced on the dusty ground in a stance that would state he had no intention of going anywhere.

"You know she'd kill you both if she caught you, right?" He firmly asked – almost certain they were not that stupid or clueless. His voice low so as to not disturb Astrid or Stormfly as he reprimanded the wayward lads.

Tuff looked imploringly up at Hiccup as he knelt on his knees his back now to the tantalising view of Astrid in the water. Snotlout however chose defence.

"Oh come on we aren't getting to see much and even you can see she's gorgeous!"

Tuff joined in the banter that swiftly followed.

"Yeah, Hiccup cut the guy some slack." He chanted as he placed a hand to Snotlout's shoulder.

"He is but a poor lonely Viking likely to never to know the joys of a woman's love or the tender touch such angels possess."

Snotlout wasn't amused. He shrugged Tuff and off and scowled.

"That's real funny! Tuffnut!" He growled sarcastically.

Tuffnut continued as if Snotlout hadn't spoken and placed his hand over his heart, his head titled to the sky like he was taking a solemn oath.

"However the ugly Viking by my side-"

"Hey!"

"-is right, the fair maiden is a sight to behold such beauty as she can only be gazed upon by such mere mortals as you, me and the snot. Am I wrong?"

Oh, he wasn't wrong.

Hiccup knew Astrid was beautiful and so did she. He also knew why she'd taken to bathing more clothed than not. He still hadn't figured out how to broch the topic with her about the time he'd walked in on her by mistake…nor how to tell her he wanted to see more. A lot more.

Did that make him as perverted as the guys?

"Yes I do know Astrid is gorgeous –" He knew it better than most. "…but she will kill the both of you when she catches you."

"Ahh! but who could say it wouldn't be worth it?"

Tuff wistfully challenged.

Again Hiccup couldn't disagree.

Feeling both perturbed with his own thoughts and more than a little protective he glared at the both of them.

"…perhaps I should kill you both right now and save Astrid the trouble?"

He growled menacingly in a tight whisper.

The pair of them were startled at the darkness in hiccups eyes. They looked wide eyed at each other then back to hiccup. Each a little unsure if he was serious.

The menace in his gaze seemed to suggest it wasn't worth the risk.

"..um…that would be less enticing…bye!" He jumped to his feet and they both bolted from the bush unseen by Astrid or Stormfly.

Hiccup stood where he was feeling both ashamed and helpless to deny his own eyes lingered a bit too long on the bathing Astrid. Unsure if Astrid wouldn't kill him too if she found him spying.

Thinking back to that time in her room where he'd seen her shirtless, her golden hair falling down around her shoulders, the long treasured memory blended with the present delight and he too wondered if being killed by Astrid for spying would be worth it.

She was a tantalizing mixture of stunning, strong and sweet. The water lathering in her hair, her arms a caramel tone of carefully concealed strength, her chest captured the falling droplets of water as she playfully continued to splash Stormfly getting coated in a wave in return.

Her laughter echoed on the breeze. Tormenting, tempting enchantingly sweet. Hiccup felt his hands tighten into fists his short cut nails seeming to bit into his palms. His breath grew unsteady as he eyes continued to stare lovingly at the young girl before him. He bit his lower lip and could almost taste the kisses she'd given him over the years. Though they'd been brief and tentative at times they scolded him like hells fire and he wanted desperately to burn in hell forever.

His throat seemed to grow dry and it was difficult to swallow as he watched with avid interest. He could see the water clinging to her chest, her blue top soaked through as he moulded more to the curves of her breasts. He'd seen them once before many years ago and now he didn't need his imagination to inspire him. He felt terrible, even angry with himself for staring at her. Had he not just scolded Tuffnut and Snotlout for doing just this? Though somehow he couldn't look away. He couldn't let this moment slip away like the water that continuously dripped from her hair to the soft mounds of her breast. Slipping beneath her top and disappearing into heaven. Hiccup felt dizzy. Honour battling against his desperate, consuming desire for the girl he'd loved all his life. Whenever she was away he felt her absence far greater than any phantom pains of his missing leg. Ask anyone whom has ever lost a limb and they'd tell you 'phantom pains' were vicious and consuming and harsh like dragon claws. Still the loss of love will always surpass.

Right now he'd give all his remaining limes to walk over to her sweep her up into his arms and carry her away. Has he been able he'd have laughed at the redundancy of that thought. …Even though he'd likely be unable to lift her, even if he had all his limbs.….that comic thought brought a level of sanity back to him. He dew in an unsteady breath and looked down at his hands that now throbbed with the force for which he'd held them. Unbeknownst he still held a small twinge in his left hand and it now sat in his hand snapped in two.

He sighed. Unsure what to do about his growing feelings for Astrid. As a child it had been dopy-eyed wounder and a longing to be by her side every waking minute….

Now, as they each grew older his love deepened and grew fiercer than ever. It wasn't just the waking hours he longed to share with her…the nights were harsher thinking about it. They tormented him till he couldn't sleep and no amount of talking to Toothless ever swayed him. He had to stop himself more than once from walking over to her hut in the early hours of the night and confessing everything to her. To kiss her with the passion that he burned intensely for years. Standing there now watching her still he felt it reach boiling point.

Who knows if he'd have followed through with his desire to go over to her and tell her the truth if Toothless hadn't chosen that moment to loose interest in his chase with the stray Fire Worm dragon and come over to see what his friend was doing.

Hiccup looked down at his friend and patted the top of his head. Thinking how if it hadn't been for Toothless he'd likely still be ignored by Astrid and not be able to call her one of his closest friends.

The closet.

"Yeah you're right bud. It's time to go."

Thinking back to what Tuffnut had said he sighed.

Ohh, yes if he were to die as punishment for watching her… it would be worth it!

Every second he got to glimpse her exquisite tantalising beauty…

He'd die a thousand deaths for her.

How he could tell her so still eluded him… her image in his head did not. It blended with the millions of precious moments in his mind and curled around his heart comforting and aching it at the same time.

Turning away he walked with Toothless back to collect the firewood. She was so ingrained in his soul and mind that temptation almost made him turn back.

Almost.
