The Crown Jewels (the other woman)
Her lips as enticing as the rubies that
Tumble out- (disguised as words).
Into your lap, they are a rich tender.
My words faltered at their birth, I did not want to speak,
For fear that the unpolished jade would give me away,
pouring from my mouth like Shark's teeth.
So I built a wall of jade.
So many words lined up, as high as I could fly.
I cut my hair, and trapped us in the round-tower of my heart.
She throws rubies at my eyes
Opals hang suspended in the corners of hers, ripe for their cascade.
For shame, I sink into bed like metal into a white-hot crucible.
I am trying to polish jade, rolling it around again and again
On my tongue.
You are the setting for our jewels.
Without your band of gold to sit upon our heads,
we are just rocks,
glittering in the sun.
