There he was, standing on the beach, waiting for me to arrive. His midnight hair was wet from the rain and dripping down his face. His chocolatey brown eyes gazed at me with love and admiration. It was the face I had fallen in love with since the day we met.

"Ollie, what are you doing here? I didn't think you would come. It's raining." I asked.

"I... I... I needed to see you, Lils. I need to tell you something." he replied, taking my hand and leading me down the beach. He intertwined his fingers with mine and shook the water from his hair.

Was this it? Was he finally going to tell me that there was something more than friendship between us? Was he finally going to tell me he loved me?

"Lils, do you recognize this place?" he inquired, gesturing around where we'd stopped. I looked around and recognized it immediately.

Of course I did. I could never forget this place.

"This is where we first met." I answered.

He smiled at me with his warm smile. We sat down and watched the waves crash against the shore and the swirly, gray sky shower us with rain.

"Ollie?" I asked.

"Yeah, Lils?" he replied, gripping my hand a little tighter.

"What did you need to tell me?".

He pulled him and I up and held both of my hands. We were face to face. I could feel his warm breath on my lips. This was it.

"Lillian Marie Truscott," he said. "Ever since we met, we've been best friends, but I've always known there's been something more between us."

He pulled a damp note out of his pocket and said, "Open it."

I complied with his order, unfolded the letter, and read it.

Lilly,
I love you.

A tear slipped down my cheek and onto the paper.

"Oh, Ollie." I cried, before wrapping my arms around him.

I put my lips close to his ear and whispered, "I love you, too."

He pulled his head back and looked at me. He had tears running down his cheeks. His nose was red. His eyes were red and puffy.

I looked at him lovingly and said, "Kiss me."

And ever so slightly, we leaned in till our lips touched.

Finally.
