Michael had never been one to chase false hopes, to harbor impossible dreams. This way of life wasn't lost on his love life either; if he didn't have a chance with a woman then he didn't have a chance. But he wasn't one to give up without a fight—as long as he knew what he wanted. And now, for the first dime, he knew exactly what he wanted.
Connie Rubirosa…a face that he saw every day, the woman that worked beside him. She was a firecracker, that one. Full of spunk, energy, and opinions. She was beautiful, and Michael was determined. And Connie was determined to turn him down.
He figured, on another day, he'd lack any sort of chance—just like always. But Valentine's Day was special, a day of love. Michael shuddered. He'd always been a believer in 'Valentine's Day is a day of commercial crap'. But, hey, maybe Connie was in to it.
"So, Miss Rubirosa, what are your plans for tonight?"
She looked up from her desk. "I'm going to get nice and cozy with the motions from the Cartin case."
"That's quite the way to spend Valentine's."
She chuckled. "It's not like I have anything better to do."
Michael sighed. It was now or never… "Actually, neither do I…hey, maybe we could go out or something…celebrate being dateless?"
Connie ducked her head to hide a smile. "But then we wouldn't be dateless."
"Quite the predicament."
Connie chuckled, beaming at him. "It would cause quite the scandal. Are you sure that you're willing to risk our jobs?"
Micheal took her hand and led her to her feet. "It think Jack would understand. We're playing in his department."
Connie couldn't contain her laughter now. "I'll get my coat."
"Sounds like a plan."
She turned to grab her things but looked back over her shoulder. "Oh, and, Mr. Cutter?"
"Yes Miss Rubirosa?"
"Just for the record, I think that Valentine's Day is a day of commercial crap," she replied, turning back to him.
"Duely noted," Michael winked. "Why, I think we'll make quite the pair." They locked arms and headed down the hallway.

Yeah, I thought so.
I would have posted this on Valentine's Day, but my father doesn't like my obsession with fanfiction and likes to keep me from the site.
