A.N.: An example for my fanfiction class of a write-around one-shot using multiple fandoms and a MacGuffin (see if you can guess what it is!) Not well written, but this is more of a utilitarian piece than a beautiful work of art :) An example of a work written by three authors, which is the point of a write-around, though this was only written by me… I'm such a cheater.
One dark night at Hogwarts, Harry Potter got up to go to the bathroom. On his way there, he wandered into a strange room that he'd never seen before, which was full of tiny multicolored lights. Upon closer inspection, he realized that the lights were faeries, and one of them was trying to get his attention.
"My name is Tinkerbell," said the faerie, "and I'm looking for a vial of magic pixie dust that was stolen from the faeires by Captain Hook.
"What the heck?" thought Harry, but figured he must be dreaming and that this might be an entertaining adventure.
"Sure, I'll help you find the pixie dust," said Harry, "but first, tell me where you're from.
"I'm from Never-Neverland," said Tinkerbell, "second Star to the right, and straight on til morning." Harry had heard of the story of Peter Pan when he lived with the Dursleys, and figured that if a place like Hogwarts existed, it was possible that Never-Neverland could actually exist.
"Let's go," said Harry, "I bet the pixie-dust is in Snape's cabinet."
Tinkerbell and Harry snuck down to Snape's potions-room to look for the pixie dust, using Harry's invisibility cloak. They looked inside Snape's cabinet, and there it was, a tiny glowing vial full of fine, flourescent dust.
"That's it!" said Tinkerbell, but just then, Snape came around the corner.
"Potter, I know that's you under that invisibility cloak! Put down my pixie dust immediately!"
Thinking quickly on her feet (or wings?), Tinkerbell threw a little bit of her own dust under Snape's nostrils, causing him to sneeze. This was just enough of a distraction for Harry to escape, and Tinkerbell to fly off with the vial between her tiny hands.
"Thanks!" she cried on her way out the door, "I'll never forget this, Harry!"
"Twelve points from Gryffindor," grumbled Snape in the background.
Harry never did get to the go the bathroom like he originally planned.
