The wedding had gone perfectly. Esme couldn't have been happier for her son and new daughter. The day had gone by so fast, the ceremony had been lovely and the reception that followed had been an intimate event with family and close friends.
Bella and Edward had departed hours ago and the guests had left shortly after. The rest of the Cullen family was now left with cleaning up after the joyous occasion. Rose and Alice had gone to pack up the chairs while the boys were managing the tables. Esme was now busying herself with taking down the twinkling lights.
"You don't have to do that just yet my dear." Carlisle said coming up behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist.
She sighed and leaned back into his arms. She was happy to have this quiet moment with her husband after such a busy day.
"and why not, love?" she asked turning in his arms to face him.
"because I would like to have one more dance with my gorgeous wife." her cold heart melted at his words and the tender look on his face.
"I would love to have one more dance with you."
"I was hoping you would say that." he purred into her ear as the music started, almost on cue.
"Oh Carlisle!" she pulled away to look up into his eyes. It was their song, the song that was decades old and unknown to most. But it was their song, and they would never dream of changing it.
"I thought you would approve." he leaned down and kissed her gently.
They wrapped their arms around each other and swayed to the familiar tune. The twinkling lights sparkled down on them as Carlisle hummed along perfectly to the melody. As they twirled on the abandoned dance floor they became lost in their own little world, nothing else mattered except each other.
The song came to an end but the couple continued their dance. Esme giggled.
"Why Doctor Cullen, I thought we agreed to only 'one' more dance!" he smiled and squeezed her tighter to him.
"I'm afraid I just can't let go." they gazed lovingly into each others faces as Carlisle leaned down to place another kiss on Esmes delicate lips. They would have been content to stay there forever but they suddenly realized they were not alone.
"Oh umm, sorry, I just came to see if you needed anymore help, but..." Emmett blurted out looking a little uncomfortable.
"It's ok son, you've done enough, go tell your siblings we'll take care of the rest." Carlisle said.
As their son headed off Esme sighed and leaned her head down on her husband's shoulder.
"I guess we should get these lights down." she said pulling out of her husbands arms. He nodded in agreement as he went to help her. There moment was over all too soon, and now it was time to get back to reality.
