PERFectly Nerdy
Nelson sat at the table in the corner of the high school's outside lunch area. He was in a daze, staring at the blonde girl at a table not far off. He'd liked the "perf" for a long time now, but he was way too shy to tell her. He attempted once. Let's go back to that.
"Hey, Grace." the socially awkward boy said, nervously, as he walked over to the pretty blond girl.
"Hey, Nelson." Grace replied, smiling and waving.
The poor guy could only stutter and laugh awkwardly. He couldn't believe that she had remembered his name or acknowledged him at all.
To this the preppy girl gave a confused look. She was lost.
"Uh... W-Would you like to dance... With... Zander?" Nelson stammered, using his best friend as an escape goat.
"Sure!" Grace replied, running over to Zander.
Yep, he got so nervous that he ended up hooking his best friend up with his crush. Poor guy.
Back in the present, Grace glanced in Nelson's direction. The nerdy boy almost forgot how to breathe. The preppy girl furrowed her brow in confusion at the gawking boy.
"Are you okay?" she asked, tilting her head.
"Uh... Yeah, I'm fine." Nelson replied, trying to not seem like a huge weirdo.
"Well, okay." Grace replied with a small smile.
Nelson let his head fall to the table in embarrassment. His other best friend, Kevin patted his shoulder, attempting to make the awkward boy feel less humiliated.
"At least she didn't laugh at you or think you're a complete doofus." another friend, Stevie told him.
Nelson lifted his head, and both boys shrugged their shoulders, as to say "Eh, true".
