Author note: I do not own 'The Last Story.'
Warning: Possible spoilers early in the game, implied CallistaxZael
I haven't ventured into writing for this fandom before, but I've definitely looked at the fics and realized how awesome the writers in this category are. So, I have decided to write a fic too, and hope that I don't get flamed. It's a short oneshot, and I hope you guys enjoy it. Constructive Criticism and reviews would be great, too! :)
Lonely
Zael had never felt like this before, to feel so lonely.
The feeling bloomed in his chest like a rose about to wither, just as Lisa left his sight and into the hustle and bustle of the streets. Maybe it was because he'd never really had the time to actually hang out with anyone between the jobs he got as a mercenary before.
Then again, considering he had lots of free time inbetween jobs, he had those chances. But then again, a lot of people never trusted mercenaries. Heck, no one dared to even walk near them. Everyone would turn their heads away, comment on how scary or disgusting they were. At least the tavern made a lot of business when the mercenaries were around, especially with Syrenne and Mirania consuming every bit of food and alcohol available. Lowell could flirt all he liked with the ladies that gathered, and the others had time to simply relax or get some sleep.
Lisa was really nice, Zael admitted to himself. She was brave to stand up to those soldiers stealing food from that vendor earlier, and then she'd thanked him and the rest of his friends when they offered to let her stay at the tavern for a little while, too. And then there was that song that she hummed so quietly at the Stargazer's Tower. Zael admitted that was a very pretty song, and she had a very pretty voice.
And then she'd left him, to go back home as she promised.
"Welcome back." Lowell greeted him as he walked into the tavern. "Where's the girl?" He asked as he leaned against the wall.
"She went home." Zael muttered quietly, not really in the mood to chat with him. Lowell just seemed to give him a quiet nod in response. Zael started to walk up the stairs to his room, in need of sleep, when Lowell spoke up again.
"And you're okay with that. Never see her again." Lowell stated, as if he knew exactly what Zael was thinking.
"What choice did I have?" Zael responded, pausing on one step. "Yes, I feel sorry for her...But there's nothing I can do."
Of course there was nothing I could do. Zael thought bitterly as he continued towards his room. Lisa needs to be at home, where she's safe and sound...
"Would you take me away with you? Anywhere. Right now."
Lisa's voice echoed in Zael's mind, and he thought of her quietly.
What am I thinking? I could have done something, I could have let her travel with us. She's stronger than she appears to be. She could have traveled with us, if everyone else was okay with it. I mean, Syrenne got along with her, and-
Zael exhaled once, opening the door to his room.
No. Lisa...If there is a home for her, it's best that she should be there. She's lucky to have a home while I have none.
Yes. It's better for her to be at home instead of with me and the rest of gang, even if I feel so lonely.
