Every now and then, Sam looks at Dean and wonders what's going on in his brother's head. He wants to know what his favorite book is (because he knows it's not Busty Asian Beauties, no matter what Dean says—he's caught him reading Tom Clancy and James Patterson more than once), wants to know if he really forgives Sam for leaving for Stanford or shooting him full of rock salt, wants to hear about his dream job or his favorite memory of Mom.
But he knows he'll never get to hear any of that, knows he won't get more than sarcasm and deflection. Because once Dean used to tell Sammy everything, but then Sammy grew into Sam and pushed his older brother away. He left for Stanford and never looked back.
So, Dean's got ten months left to live and there's so much Sam wants to ask, wants to know, so he can look back and remember them, remember Dean. But he won't get it because he doesn't deserve it.
