Zoe's sad return
It was a few days after Jeff had died in the crash, today was the day of his funeral. All of the ED staff had gathered outside the crematory, as well as some old faces who knew Jeff. Also, his nephew, Jamie, had flown back from Australia to be there, much to Robyn's joy. Connie was running late, she had one last job to do before she went- to phone Zoe.
"Hello, Zoe Hanna" Zoe said picking up the phone.
"Hi Zoe, its Connie."
Zoe was quite shocked at this, and simply replied.
"Ok, what can I do for you Connie?"
"I need you to get to Holby crematory ASAP. I'll explain when you arrive, I'll meet you outside. Bye" Connie said, this set alarm bells off ringing in her head, she guessed someone had died, but she hadn't a clue who. She put on her tight black dress and a little black cardigan with her shoes and sped off to the crematory.
She stepped out of her car and walked around to the entrance to meet Connie. All of the ED staff were stood outside waiting, so guessed it was pretty bad.
"Zoe" Connie said.
"hi, right I don't want a whole hello welcoming, just tell me who's died and how please." Zoe said firmly, trying to hold back tears for now.
"It's Jeff, I'm afraid. There was a car crash, involving all of our doctors and Tess, as they were getting Ash out, there was a fuel leak, and the car blew up with Jeff in it." Connie explained.
"Thank you for telling me Connie, are you all ok?"
"Well, Ethan, Lily and Ash were in a bad way, but they are on the way to recovery, I think Ethan was the worst of everyone though, but they are all fine thank you."
"ok, thanks." Zoe said, walking away and going to join the rest of the staff who were stood in a huddle around the door.
"Hi" Zoe simply said as she walked up to them, Max's eyes lit up when he heard this and a huge smile spread across his face.
"ZOE!" numerous voices said.
"Have you heard?" Dixie said in tears.
"Yeah, Connie told me, I'm so sorry." Zoe said, tears appearing in her eyes.
Dixie hugged her,
"I know. I'm glad you're here though, Jeff would have loved that."
Zoe smiled and wiped her eyes. Then they all went into the service. Max sat next to Zoe, and held her tightly throughout the service.
By the time it had finished, everyone was in tears, Zoe was sat there thinking of all of the things her and Jeff had been through together, all of the laughs, and all of the cries.
"hey, come on Zoe, wipe those pretty eyes of yours" Max said wiping Zoe's eyes.
"And I wasn't even there. But I'm so thankful Connie called, so I could be here." Zoe said.
They all went outside for the burial; Zoe pulled a picture out of her pocket of her and Jeff when they were on a shout. She threw it in, so he could have the happy memory too.
Tamzin and Dixie were in pieces, both crying their eyes out as they had lost the man of their lives. They were trying to comfort each other through it, but had a meltdown when they covered the coffin up.
"I love you Jeffery Collier, I'll miss you and your fun personality" Zoe whispered smiling as she thought of all of the fun times she had witnessed with him.
