AN: Hey, I'm new to the Walk to Remember stories (I've done two Princess
Diaries so far), but I love the stories all ready up. So here goes, and
please review!
Chapter 1
'I can't believe I'm coming back.' The brown haired girl Jamie thought to herself.
As she drove into town, she saw the sign that she hadn't seen since she was 18.
"Welcome To Beaufort." It said
Jamie had come back, but only for work, she told herself. She was the head of a nation wide business, and just her luck, the company decided to start one right here. In Beaufort. It use to be her home, the place that she grew up with her father. She had gone to school here, or at least until the end of senior year when she went to Madison to work as a secretary. Soon, she had risen to the top of ladder, and was now the boss.
Her father had recently passed away, and had left the house to her. Other then the fact that she was here to business, that was the other reason she had come back. Her father had some old stuff that was still in the house that Jamie wanted to see.
"So, what to do first?" She asked herself.
She had been driving for hours, so she decided to stop for a cup of coffee and restroom break.
She pulled in, and got out. Inside, there was only one other person. He had a baseball cap on and was looking down so Jamie didn't see his face.
"Hi, I'll have one large caramel latte please." She said to the cashier.
The lady behind the counter smiled and nodded.
Jamie found a table and grabbed the paper as she waited for her latte.
"Um, Miss?" The lady said, "Your latte is ready."
Jamie thanked her, took her latte, and sat back down.
As she was flipping through the front section of the paper, a shadow came in front of her.
"Jamie?"
Jamie looked up to see the guy in the baseball cap looking at her. Then she recognized him.
Oh, God, it was Landon.
"Hello Carter." She said through gritted teeth. She was hoping she wouldn't see him during her trip, and just her luck, she saw him before she even got home.
"Jamie," He said, "Can we talk?"
"I don't see why." She responded.
"Well, I we really never got a chance to before you left." He said quietly.
"That's your own fault." Jamie spat at him. Man, she was hating every minute of him being here.
"I know Jamie, that's why I want to talk." Landon said, and then sat down in the seat across from her.
"Landon," She said looking up at him with hateful eyes, "This isn't the best time. I have come back here for a little while, and I haven't even gotten home yet. I don't want to talk right now. And maybe not for a while."
Landon nodded sadly and got up "I understand. Well, I'll see you around then I guess."
Jamie just went back to her paper and nodded softly.
She heard the door open and close, and then she let a deep breath.
'I don't want to go through that again.' She told herself.
She got up and threw away the empty cup, and walked back outside.
She usually liked to listen to the radio when she was driving, but during the whole ride to her father house, it was completely silent.
As she drove up to the house, an eerie feel came over her. She knew that once she got inside she'd remember her mother, her father, her childhood, and her senior year she was trying to forget.
The house was dark, and as Jamie flicked on the lights, she knew she was home. Everything was still in the same spot that it was when she left. The kitchen tile was still old and needed to be replaced. And the pictures of Jamie from when she was first born to her high school graduation still hung on the wall.
Jamie went to go look at the pictures, smiling and remember at each one. Some with her mother when she was still alive, and some with just her father. Then there one at the end, which was new picture in a frame.
As she stepped closer to have a better look, she realized what it was.
It was one of her and Landon, when they we're at Jamie's house. Landon was tickling Jamie, and she was laughing. Her father had always loved that picture (It was his favorite of the two of them) so he had obviously put it up so that Jamie would see it, and love it. But instead, she hated it. It reminded her of how Landon and her relationship was so great, until it all came spiraling down.
She didn't want to take it down, because she knew her father wouldn't like that very much. Even if he wasn't here.
After bringing her luggage up into her old room (Which, again, was still exactly the same), she snuggled down into bed, still dressed, and fell asleep.
