Hairclips

Summary: "Why do you wear hairclips anyway?" The man smirked. "Why don't you?"

A/N: I've always been curious as to why Kagari wears hairclips. I made this little back story for fun, so please review and tell me what you think!

The Enforcer rose from his desk, humming softly as he made his way down the metal corridor. Hands in his pocket, Kagari entered the break room, smiling.

"I thought all Inspectors were hard-working. Guess I was wrong." He teased, moving to sit next to the girl. "We are. This is my lunch break, Kagari."

"Oh. You're no fun." He huffed, crossing his arms childishly.

"Sorry."

They lapped into silence, Akane taking another sip of her coffee. "So why are you here, Kagari? I know it's not your lunch break."

"You caught me! I just wanted to spend some time with my favorite Inspector!"

"You're a horrible liar. I bet you just want to skip out of doing paperwork for Ginoza." She muttered, returning to her drink. "Can't argue with you there. He's all 'business this', 'business that'. I never get to have any fun." He sighed, running his fingers through his hair. He pulled the hairclips out, depositing them into his pocket.

"Ah, that reminds me. Why do you wear hairclips anyway?" The man smirked. "Why don't you?"

He laughed. "Alright, I'll tell you. It's not that great of a story anyway."

The newly made Enforcer cursed, spitting out blood. "Why do you care about this girl, anyway? You're nothing but a dog for the police."

"Shut up." He aimed the Dominator at the man, eyes shining blue. "Lethal Eliminator unlocked. Aim carefully and shoot the target."

The criminal smirked, pulling the shaking girl in front of him. A knife pressed dangerously against the woman's throat. "Drop the gun or she dies."

Shusei lowered the gun, dropping it onto the pavement. He kicks it toward the deranged criminal.

"Good." The man fumbles with the Dominator, aiming it towards the orange-haired youth and discarding the knife. "Gotcha…" Kagari whispered, rushing the man. He knocks the gun out of his hands, punching the brute in the face. Stunned, his grip lessens on the girl, allowing her to escape from his arms. "Stay behind me!" The Enforcer barks, aiming the gun at the man. It goes off, leaving a pool of blood where the criminal once stood.

S-Shusei, is that you?" She whispers, eyes wide with shock.

"Yeah, sis, it's me." He smiles, putting the gun back in its holster. The girl cries, running towards the man. "How did you escape the facility? I thought I'd never see you again."

"I didn't escape. I'm an Enforcer now." He laughs, hugging her. "D-does that mean you can come back home?" He pauses, frowning. "I don't think so… this is my life now."

"No… I-I won't let you leave! It's been three years, Shusei! I miss you…" She hugs him tighter, tears staining his shirt. He holds her, brushing her hair gently. Sniffling, she lets go, looking at the man one last time.

"Here, take these." The orange-haired girl removes her blue hairclips, giving them to the Enforcer. "To remember me by."

Shusei smiles. "I'd never forget you, Hana. But, I'll keep these anyway."

"So they're your sister's?" He nods. "Mhmm. I wear them because it would be easy to lose them."

Akane laughs, patting the man's back. "Here I thought you were just making a fashion statement."

"I'm hurt! Surely you must think better of me than that!" Feigning sadness he shuffles out of the break room. A few seconds past until the man walks back, smiling. "Oh, and Akane?" "Yes?" "You're the only one I've told this to. So, if anyone asks, tell them I took the hairclips from some dead criminal. It sounds cooler! See ya!"

Akane Tsunemori laughs, nodding in confirmation. Shusei was always full of surprises…
