Instincts

AN: I just want to say that I have no idea what this is or where it came from. But I hope you enjoy it anyways.

O.o.o.o.o.O.o.o.o.o.O.o.o.o.o.O.o.o.o.o.O

Luffy had always had good instincts.

Really.

Don't let that idiot fool you.

Behind that goofy smile and hat, he wasn't as dumb as he acted. Oh, he surely wasn't book smart and he could be fairly naive at times, but he wasn't dumb. He always could spot the strongest enemy in a group or be able to find just the right words to say in a given situation. He would know when someone was dangerous, especially when that person was a threat to his nakama.

That's not to say that he wasn't fun loving and someone who tried to see the best in people. He was. He had this ability to view everything with new eyes. Sometimes I envied him that… but, he maintained that attitude because his nakama, his family, needed him to remain upbeat so he always presented that amazingly cheerful façade.

But I've seen him determined and angry and unbearably sad. And to have that depth of emotion and strength of character, you can't be an idiot.

Maybe I could call it situational intelligence? Street smarts could also be a possibility, I guess. But, really, I think I'll just keep it at good instincts.

Really good instincts.

Fabulously good instincts.

I mean, really-

"Nami?"

"Huh?" I stopped making circles with my fingers on the hard surface I was laying against and looked up at him. He looked nervous.

"Are you ok?"

I smiled. "I'm fine, just thinking."

Relaxing a little at my smile he ran his fingers through my hair. "Did I do alright?"

My smile grew big enough to rival one of his. "Luffy, you did wonderful." I rose and placed a kiss against his lips and sighed as he responded with more of his own.

As he pressed me back against the mattress once more, three words echoed in my mind.

"Really good instincts."

O.o.o.o.o.O.o.o.o.o.O.o.o.o.o.O.o.o.o.o.O

AN: I always thought that there was more to Luffy than an insane smile and hyper personality. He always seemed like there was a hidden depth to him that we only glimpse, never really see head on. Moments where he has some insight that no one else does and his determination speaks for itself. But, anyways, that's my little Luffy rant-ish-thing.

Hope you enjoyed and please let me know what you thought.
