He couldn't believe how the Guster's had reacted. Sure he knew they would be mad, after all he had slept with the only female child; their baby, but to kick him out on Christmas day was just cruel.
Then again the Burton parents had only recently accepted him; maybe this was a show of the annoyance and resentment they hid underneath the cheery smiles. After all was getting them off a couple of murder charges really that great? The charges would have probably fallen through in court anyway but he assumed that he had earned a place in their family.
To tell the truth Shawn wasn't even sure if he wanted a relationship with Joy. Sure she was attractive, quick-witted and even a little adventurous but there was just something missing.
"Hey Shawn you alright there?" the voice broke through his contemplation and Shawn turned around shocked, only to be more shocked upon seeing that it was Lassiter who had called to him.
"Of course I'm fine Lassie, why wouldn't I be?" Shawn kept a smile on his face but he knew Carlton could see right through it.
"I'm going to hate myself for this in the morning but…. Would you like to come to a Christmas party with me?" Carlton said teeth greeted and a slightly pained look on his face but his eyes showed slight concern for the troubled psychic.
Shawn just stood there staring at Carlton in shock; while yes he did consider Carlton a friend he would never in his wildest dreams think that Carlton felt more then annoyance (maybe grudging respect) towards him.
"It's my ex-wife; she's hosting a party and invited me and a guest along. Although I'm sure she doesn't expect me to turn up, but you know I think I like this idea a little better know. I'm sure she will be shocked to see I can actually find someone to spend Christmas with me – even if it is you."
"Seeing as you asked so nicely while staring sexily at me with those big puppy dog eyes, well how can I say no Lassie."
Getting into Carlton's car a small smile passed over his face, maybe this would be a good Christmas after all.
