Those Three Simple Words
Chapter 1: The Heartbreaking Move
"Now class...before I dismiss you to go home...I have some sad news," Ms.Mari said.
"Sad News?" Yai asked.
"Yes...one of your classmates is moving away..." Ms.Mari said sadly.
Dex wondered who it was and turned to Lan.
"Hey, Lan. Do you know how's moving?" Dex asked.
Lan stayed silent for a moment.
"Well, do ya?" Dex asked.
"...yea..." Lan said.
"Well...who is it?" Dex asked.
"Lan...would you like to say a word to the class?" Ms.Mari asked.
Lan walked up to the front of the classroom.
"You gotta be kidding me..." Dex said.
"You're moving, Lan?" Yai asked.
"Yeah...my dad got transferred to Cyber City...so our family has to move," Lan said sadly.
"YOU DIDN'T TELL US SOMETHING THIS IMPORTANT!" Yai exclaimed. "Mayl...aren't you mad?"
Mayl stayed silent.
"You knew?" Yai asked.
"...yea...I found out from Lan's parents told me a while back..." Mayl said sadly.
"Class...Lan is moving on Sunday...why don't we all say to be there to say good bye?" Ms.Mari suggested.
The whole class agreed.
---
That Sunday...
The whole class came to the front of Lan's house to say their goodbyes.
"We'll miss you so much, Lan..." Ms.Mari said.
The whole class was all saying "We'll miss you".
"sniff...I'll miss you dude...But I'm still your rival!" Dex managed to say.
"Yea...We're still rivals!" Lan said.
"Lan...you better write...and come visit...sniff" Yai said and started to sob.
"I will, Yai...I promise." Lan said
"Lan...I was just thinking...it would have been nice...to graduate elementary school together...and junior high together...together...always...sniff...I'm sorry...I promised I wouldn't cry." Mayl said sadly.
"It would have been nice for all of you to graduate together...sniff" Ms.Mari said, crying.
"It doesn't matter what school I'll go to...you'll always be my teacher" Lan honestly said.
"We'll miss you so much." The whole class said.
"Don't be too sad. We'll be in the country. You can come visit sometime. Once the Expo in Cyber City opens..why don't you come visit? And on holidays...we'll come back!" Lan's dad said.
The whole class nodded.
"Lan...we'll get to the car...come back when you're ready." Lan's dad said.
Lan simply nodded.
"Lan...I'll miss you so much..." Mayl said crying.
"Mayl...I'll miss you too..." Lan said and started to cry.
The rest of the class left to go home sadly except for Mayl. She started to cry hard.
"Mayl...don't cry..." Lan said.
Mayl couldn't take it anymore. She hugged Lan as tightly as she could. Normally, Lan would try to get away...but this time he didn't try. He hugged her back.
"I'll come back...I promise." Lan said. "Don't forget our promise."
"I won't. I'll wait for you." Mayl said.
Lan nodded.
"I should go now..." Lan said slowly.
Mayl nodded.
"But before I go...I want you to have something." Lan said.
Lan took off his signature blue bandana and handed it to Mayl.
"Lan...I could never take this...You've had it for years!" Mayl said.
"I know...but this is a part of me. I want to leave it here with you. When you ever get sad, just hold this bandana and think of the good times we had together." Lan said.
Mayl started to cry.
"Okay...I'll keep it." Mayl said.
Lan left to go to his parents' car. As they drove off, Mayl said something to herself as she tightened her grip on the blue bandana.
"Lan...I'll never forget you. I hope you come back...because..." Mayl tried to say it but she couldn't. She could only think it.
I love you.
