A Bullet Between Your Eyes

Kara sat on one of the Galactica's corridor's benches, fiddling with the buttons on her dress uniform. People ran past her, but she didn't care. She had bigger things to worry about.

She couldn't believe Anders was a Cylon. It was a real shock to the system. She remembered telling him once that if he was a Cylon she'd put a bullet between his eyes. She didn't know how she felt now, being married to a toaster.

Screams of "Cylon!" "Shoot the Cylon!! and "Airlock the Cylon" came from somewhere down the corridor, snapping her out of her reverie. She rose and sprinted towards that section of the corridor, hearing the sounds getting louder as she approached. A big group of people were surrounding Sam. People were throwing things at him and pushing him. He tried to hedge, but there was nowhere to escape to.

"What's going on?!" she demanded. Everyone turned to face her. Sam looked relieved, as if he'd been afraid the mob would lynch him.

"Oh look, the Cylon wife is here to rescue her Cylon husband," a voice said, heavy with sarcasm. She didn't know whose it was.

"Shut the frak up!" she yelled. She looked angrily into the crowd, trying to find the face to match the voice. "Have you guys lost your frakking minds?"

"Make a hole!" she yelled again and strode into the circle of people. They looked angry, almost angry enough to hurt her. She reached out her hand to Sam. "Come on, follow me." He took her hand without pause and she led him back the way she'd come.

She turned back to the crowd, noticing a few people she knew had personal problems of their own. "You guys should look in the mirror, before you start victimizing others." All eyes dropped, as though ashamed of their behaviour. "If I ever see this happening again I'll make sure to drag your sorry asses to the brig one by one. Is that clear? She said sternly. The crowd stared quietly at her.

"I said, is that clear?" Kara yelled.

"Yes sir!" the officers in the crowd answered obediently.

"Now get the frak out of here." She stood and watched them all leave.

Sam sighed. "Thanks Kara. I really appreciate your help. I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't shown up."

"Don't mention it. Just try not to walk around by yourself. It's not safe anymore."

Sam Anders sighed again, his hand rubbing the back of his neck. "It started to look really bad when they began to throw things at me. One crazy chick looked like she wanted to grab me and take me to the airlock". They walked in silence for a few strides. "Um, about what's going on ... "

"You mean the fact that you're a Cylon?" Kara interrupted, eyes sliding towards him and giving him a wary once-over.

"Yeah, that."

"It changes things."

Sam sighed. "I figured it would. But it doesn't change who I am. I'm still Samuel T Anders, formerly a pro Pyramid player and a Viper pilot in training."

She turned to face him squarely, hands on her hips. "It changes how I feel about you."

The air was charged as their eyes tangled for long moments. "So are you still going to put a bullet between my eyes?" he asked softly.

Kara let out an exclamation that sounded like disgust as she turned and began to walk away. She turned back after several steps. "Not tonight," she said, a smile turning the corners of her lips upwards. "You're far too good a lay to waste."
