A chuckle followed by a scream pierced the night air. "Why? Why us? Why keep me alive?" Berri screamed repeatedly, clutching where her eyes once were. She could barely keep her consciousness long enough to hear the male's response.

"I am simply keeping you alive long enough until you reach your greatest point~"

After that, Berri's body hit the floor with a loud thump, sounding like she was dead.

A few years after that incident, Berri stepped out the doorway of a room she was currently staying in. The Hunter Exams were today, and she didn't show the slightest bit of nervousness.

"Don't forget your sunglasses!" She adoptive father yelled, running up to her and putting them on her. "Stay alive. I know you will do it. You can 'see' using Nen." He patted her on the shoulder, pushing her of in the direction of the doc.

"Surely I'll be able pass it in my first try~" She called happily, clenching her fist as if she had already won and had her Hunter's license. Nothing could stop her. She had her adoptive parents to than for taking her in when she had stumbled to their doorstep and accepted her in despite what she could only guess was a heinous appearance. "Nothing will get in my way!" She chuckled softly as she neared the port. She only knew because of the cooler breezes and smell of the sea.

"Hey you, watch where you're going!" Someone yelled as she bumped into her. She didn't apologize since she didn't have a reason. She was blind and didn't know a person was there. Besides, she was probably the only one out of these wannabe hunters that had the slightest clue what was required to become a true hunter. The last part was the easiest for her since her 'mother' was an examiner.

Next thing she knew, there was a pistol pointed at the back of her head. "You, you should really say you're sorry. You never know what might happen." But before she could react, another person broke the man's gun and his group ran, dragging him along. She swore she could've heard the man mutter, "This girl is my prey."

"Thank you." Berri said, checking that her battle armor and rapiers were still with her. "I appreciate it." She giggled nervously, waiting for the person's reply.

"It was… no problem." It was a man's voice… and a familiar one at that.

"Who are you?" Berri asked, putting her Ten and guard up. She might be wrong, but a feeling told her that he was… 'Never mind, it's probably not his anyways.' She thought, sighed and turning back to the general direction of the ship. "But could you help me to the boat to get to the Hunter's Exam?" She asked, grabbing the man's shirt.

"Sure~ Why not~" He said, grabbing her hand gently. "By the way, my name is Hisoka~" He pulled her along and onto the boat and taking a seat next to her. "Let's get through the Exam together!" Berri could only assume that he had a happy-go-lucky expression on his face.
