So I'm new to writing fan fiction, and this is my first story. I really don't know what I'm doing here, and any comments or advice would be great.

Rain

Kurt stared out the window as rain continued to fall on the Xavier institute. It wasn't that he didn't like rain, in fact, Kurt loved it. However, since coming to the institute and receiving his image inducer, Kurt had been in a funk that the rain seemed to mock. The TV had said that this rainstorm would last for days, if not all week and this meant that he was trapped inside for the break. The thing about rain was that it tripped out his image inducer, causing him to look kinda like Logan if Logan was a 5"9 German elf. Not that Kurt didn't like Logan, but people would notice if one day he was his normal self and the next day he was as hairy as a mountain man. Forge said he'd get that glitch worked out, but after that thing with the other dimension Kurt didn't trust him much.

Kurt was going stir-crazy cooped up inside. Most of the other xmen were either back home or going on trips. Rogue, in an effort to reach out to Kurt after their quasi-siblinghood was revealed, had offer to take Kurt down south with her to see the sights, but humidity was almost as bad as rain as far as the glitch went. Others had offered to take Kurt along, but he felt that they were all just being nice, and he didn't want to seem like a burden. Plus it was easier to cover up teleplay or ice creation than a blue fuzzy demon.

Kurt quietly sang to the mocking rain," rain, rain go away, come again some other day… yea right." Even in his depression, Kurt simply didn't believe that a simple nursery rhyme could banish his troubles. If this continued as long as the weather man had said, he'd go crazy and run around the institute wearing nothing but a smile. Kurt had already done most things in the institute that could be done alone. The only other people in the institute were Kitty (who was taking an online computer class), Jubilee (who seemed shy and had seemed more interested in what her Bay ville friends were doing), Scott (who was devoted all week to fixing his car) Logan (who just never seemed to be there) and the professor (Kurt highly doubted he wanted to play video games). Kurt could have probably practiced his gymnastics in the danger room, if he hadn't already done that four thousand times.

Suddenly, the sound of footsteps rang into Kurt's ear. A second later, Kitty came down the stairs, obviously on a study break. "hey elf" she smiled," like, why the long face?" Kurt smiled at this comment. Kitty wasn't a telepath, but she always had the ability to know just what he was thinking. That sort of thing was what your best friend was for.

"oh, nothing. I'm just tired of being cooped up in here." Kurt answered.

"Well, let's fix that." Kitty smirked as she jingled a pair of keys," I swiped these from Scott. he won't miss them. Wanna go for a drive?"

"Kitty!" Kurt yelped, " Scott will kill us!"

"oh, lighten up! That's half the fun! We could go through the drive through and I'll pay. "Kitty knew Kurt could not refuse free food. "Come on! Just this once. "

Kurt relented," fine but I'm driving this time!"

The two ran out the door without realizing the rain had stopped.
