Why

As I lay still, unable to sleep

The sacrifice of Jesus came to my mind

An event of time long past

An act of selfless love and pain

Why Dear Lord?

I've seen the length of nails

Driven into your palms and feet

I can only imagine the agony

Why Lord Jesus?

Why take stroke after stroke

That should have been ours?

Blood we should have shed?

Why Lord God?

Humiliation that is ours not yours

You took upon your back and soul

Naked and beaten, you lay to the elements

I don't understand

How one's love could be so strong

To endure whips, broken flesh and blood

To save ungrateful children

I spend tonight

Pondering Your sacrifice of selflessness

When You speak unto me

With such gentle words

"Dear child of Mine"

"I took stroke after stroke with you on mind"

"I died and rose"

"For the children I love"
