Missing pieces

Sasame X Mawata

"-Music is what FEELINGS- sound like-"

The firsttime he heard her voice, he was already addicted. He wandered around the mansion every night to hear her sing. He couldn't detach his craving, it was never enough.

He would lean against the door frame, arms folded and eyes closed, as he silently and secretly would listen to her melody. And every time she ended her song, there will be a disappointing feeling tugging at his heart. He wanted it to never end. And only after he made sure that she will not sing anymore for the night, he would silently retreat to his night job as a radio jockey.

He doesn't know the owner of that saintly voice, nor did he ever see her. It was never an interest of his to discover who it was. He knew her voice had power over him and he didn't like that. So he completely discarded the fact that there was someone behind the closed door at all.

Throughout his life, he has suffered from unavoidable mental pain and that women's voice had the power to heal him. Every time she would start singing, her melodious voice took his sorrow and loneliness away. It held a power to relief him from Takao's love. She used to take him to a different world away from all the worries and affairs.

But then it stopped…

...and he left.

The first time he came to look for Himeno he was stunned a little, it was the same mansion.

He figured that the voice was not Himino's but of someone she knew and just by the thought of hearing it again made him vulnerable. But he quickly gathered his composure and disregarded that feeling. At this moment that was not important because as a knight of sound he shouldn't really think about wasting his time behind trivial feelings, more importantly he needs to protect the Pretear.

Even though he felt strongly about avoiding such feelings ... he couldn't fulfill it. He couldn't stop himself, He gave up in a week and her thoughts drove him to search for her. However he kept failing at his attempt. He hated this feeling, hated it all.

His fingertips glided along his hair as he was listening to everyone's conversation on how the mission was going. He was sitting alone on a pillar after avoiding bumping into people and running away from Himino and Hayate.

His depression was lurking around again. He felt blue and thoughts about how messed up he is kept pinned to his head. He tried to shake off the thoughts, but it's stuck to him. His doubt of his role as a Knight made him feel worse. Did he really want to vanish protecting the Pretear from the Princess of disaster. Was it worth it? Does he really have to hurt Takao… the person he has been in love with for nineteen years? He wanted answers, but he didn't have any.

It was painful to feel this sorrow all by himself. He wanted to talk about it but there was no one to share it with. He was alone and he painfully fully realizes that. All by himself in this world, surrounded by the thoughts of destroying himself.

Sasame Jumped off the pillar and started pacing towards the mansion.

His steps were quick and short. His mind jumbled and heart filled with mental agony. He doesn't want any of it. He wants this feeling to vanish. He wants to be in peace, just like before. He wants to indulge himself in her voice. He wants to hear her again.

And so it happened, her voice barely audible tore through the air. He halted and his breathe caught in his throat as his ears picked up the sound. The hair on his back neck went rigid and goosebumps shot through him as he heard her once again. After so many years of wanting to hear her voice again finally transpired.

However it was not the same as before. This time around, his heart ached instead. Ached to hold her tight in his arms.

She was crying…

His heart was anxious, his mind jumbled to think straight. It was not his soreness anymore, he was worried about her. So much so that he ran as fast as he could, stumbling along his way towards her voice. He couldn't help it, he discovered her sobs made him reckless.

Her voice was not blurry anymore, he could hear her better. Her words were getting clearer and clearer… clearer until he froze in his track once again.

"Sasame.. Sasame… Sasame…" she chanted as she wept.

He was in a state of shock and numbness as he heard his name being repeated over and over again.

He was in front of the same door he was years back. This women was on the other side of the closed door, like she always were. He was back to where he felt he belonged.

He could feel her warmth from the other side of the solid barrier. It's the same thing again, he never escaped it. Her voice will forever guide him to her.

She was leaning over the closed door as her body sprawled oround the floor. Her body felt weak and her heart ached mercilessly. She felt miserable. No she was not alright, not physically nor mentally. Her voice cracked from soreness and her frail body was exhausted. She was broken.

On the other side of the door, Sasame's hand glided over the door, tracing it carefully with his palm, as if it will break if he was rough even just a little bit. The shock of his name being chanted still clung to him. His heart was aching for her, at the same time it was filled with warmth from able to hear her voice once more. He was lost in his own feeling.

He didn't dare twirling the door knob. He doesn't want to see her. This wrecked women... He is too selfish of his own feeling of cowardliness.

Sasame instead carefully retreated his shaky hand and slowly turned around. His back slumped against the door, as it slid to the floor. He released a gulp of breathe that he was holding as his body leaned over the closed door. The girl, she was still crying. His name, she repeated was painfully stinging his heart.

She was a broken doll… Her griefs were far deeper than his. Sasame's hair shadowed his slumped head and his jaws unknowingly clenched in anger, she doesn't deserve it.

"Mowata…" He whispered under his breathe.

He loved Takao. Right?

He believes he does and so he became her loyal servant. It was his own willingness… he wanted to discipline himself for leaving Takao in a horrific dark cage where she grieved all alone. He wanted to make it up to her. He wanted to mend all his wrongness, and work towards discarding the heavy guilt he carried.

He loved her. He loved her. He loved Takao… but then why is he hesitant to hurt Mawata…

That's what Takao wants. Nothing else should matter but Takao. Nothing should ever be a priority but Takao. Nothing should ever make his heart flutter but Takao. Takao…Takao…Ta…Oh Mawata.

She was sprawled carelessly on her nicely done bed on her tummy, her dress hiking a little bit further up her mid-thigh. Her headphone securely tucked in her ears, as she listened to his already recorded advice from his radio channel… there were tear marks on her flushed cheek. She silently cried for him to save her from her cage of loneliness.

Mawata quickly turned when she felt a presence…

And his breathe caught in his throat… she was more than he expected.

"So we meet again Mawata" He stated in his usual calm composed voice.

"Sasame" She whispered

…and in that exact moment he felt a thousand shiver run through his body….his heart regained the same pain he felt before.

He experienced a million shades of emotions that engulfed him while he lured Mawata in his trap. He made her believe that he will always be by her side no matter what. He made her embrace the hatred towards everyone and use it as a weapon.

He already sinned, did he not? Nothing should ever bother him, then why kissing Takako in front of Mawata felt so wrong? Why did he feel miserable? Why was he not happy?

It tore him apart to see her helplessly sitting on the floor, her heart drained and numb. Her eyes held no life. She looked wretched and he was at fault. Hatred, pain, solitude consumed the old Mawata completely.

She will die and so will everyone.

She will rot

She will suffer

She will...

She…

She... doesn't deserve it...

He felt helpless for the first time.

It was pouring down hard tonight, the rain had no intention of stopping. His tired figure walked through the crowd, his body drenched from the downpour. Hands in his pocket, silver hair soaked and sticking to his face.

He was very popular with the girls. It was hard for him to go out without attracting much attention. The fact that the rain was preventing anyone from clearly seeing him, made him blend in with the crowd. It was one of those days when he couldn't stand his depression. He hastily stepped out of his studio once he was done with work. The rain didn't bothered him, in fact he was glad that it was raining. He was not ready for human interaction and the rain worked to his advantage.

It has been three years since the grand fight; He got what he always wanted. Everything was in peace. Lefenia, this world, and even the Lefea Knights were safe. Everything was alright...

everything except him…..

Takao and he weren't together anymore. It was after a month of the great battle that he realized that he cared for Takao, he loved her, and he wanted to protect her but not like a lover. As for Takao, she eventually found love in Go.

Sasame was the furthest from being alright. The guilt of hurting someone so broken, and so vulnerable consumed him. She, who was his sanctuary, he mentally destroyed her. The awful feeling in him slowly driving him insane. He is at a point where it's effecting his daily life. He is becoming ridiculously obsessed with her thoughts. She is always in his mind. How much he wanted to hear her… to see her…to mend her… he couldn't. After his wrong doings, he doesn't deserve any of it.

But his selfishness couldn't be suppressed. He knew from before that she consistently listened to his station and even after all the things that happened, her habit haven't changed. Though she stopped writing to him, he knew she can't stop listening to him. And that was why he was still a jockey. His comfort was that they were still connected to each other. How petty, but that was enough for him to still being able to sleep at night. He was miserable… miserably lost.

Now a days he was always in the mansion, the only gate to Lefenia was situated there. Once a while he would hang out with everyone inside, but he has yet to encounter Mawata. Maybe she was intentionally avoiding him, or maybe he made sure she was nowhere near when he was there. Either way Sasame should stay far away from her, after all he was the one who shattered her.

Even though Sasame haven't seen Mawata, he is updated about her. Hayame talks about her a lot, that she is really happy and has changed for the better. She used to smile, talk to others, and has grown to be extremely beautiful. She is a gorgeous seventeen year old.

Her voice, he didn't hear for three years. As a knight of sound he could easily trace her voice, he tried countless of times... helplessly... but failed in the end. Maybe cause inside Sasame knew how forbidden that was.

Sasame's feet brought him back to the mansion again, and here he was, his feet unintentionally guided him to the same door he left three years ago. His back fell towards the well-known wooden frame. His shaky hand reached for his glasses as he adjusted his vision. His body, drained of energy, slid to the floor onto his two feet. His restrain was cracking, he is slowly giving into his desire. He is yearning to hear her once again, to find refuge in her.

He was a fool for pushing her away and not pulling her to him instead. How stupid was he… how heartless was he… how alone is he…. Oh Mawata…Mwata! All he wants is his Mw-

"Sasame…"

…his breathe caught in his throat, and his eyes instantly opened. Her painful whisper echoed from the other side of the door and his inside was finally at peace….

after three years… he finally heard her voice.

"Ma-aw-ata..." He stuttered helplessly.

There was no answer.

A silent aroma engulfed the space. The only sound was the sound of screaming lightning and heavy rainfall from outside. It was a horrible night yet the greatest night to Sasame.

"Please don't stop…" Sasame whispered desperately "Don't stop..."

"I...I..." Mawata's voice held hesitation.

And there was silence again as neither of them knew what to say to each other. It was like The Knight of sound was soundless himself, he lost all his power. He was powerless when he was with her.

He couldn't help but ask…

"Can you sing for me Mawata" Sasame whispered "I want you to talk to me…"

It was frantic, he needed her and that's all... he doesn't care anymore doesn't care what she feels about him… he needed her... A selfish desire.

A selfish desire to make her his

"Yeah…" Mawata whispered, as she slowly turned the knob of the door.
