A/N: Okay, This is a little ditty I came up with while watching Man in the Cell, and took me forever to finish. Please let me know what you think.
In her Shoes- A Bones Fan Fic
Temperance Brennan was all about logic. Logic was everything. It supported every decision she made. But the thoughts running through her head at that particular moment were anything but logical.
Howard Epps had Cam on the verge of death, using a poison that even Hodgins couldn't identify.
But Temperance Brennan wished with all her might that she could be the one on the brink of death with a handsome FBI agent looking at her lovingly.
Brennan took in the scene as she would a crime scene, with a concentrated stare. Booth's eyes were glazed with tears that were too proud to fall and he was clutching his St. Christopher medallion to his chest. She could almost hear the prayers she knew he was thinking. She wished he was praying for her, even though she knew prayers could not stop the inevitable from happening.
Booth meant more to her than anyone knew, possibly even herself. She thought about him all the time, and she was never going to admit it, but he was the inspiration for Special Agent Andy Lister. He would tease her endlessly if he knew that.
It was the most illogical of all her thoughts, but Temperance Brennan thought she was in love with Seeley Booth. The thought took up a great amount of her time. Even when she was supposed to be working on the latest adventures of Kathy and Andy, she found herself staring blankly at her computer screen deep in thought over her 'partner'.
It's not like she could simply go up to him and say, "Hey, Booth! After dealing with the horrific murder of this teenage boy, would you like to go to dinner in a posh restaurant and afterward you can feel me up?". No. Though Angela would have a field day if she were to do that.
Brennan could hear it now, "Bren! Sweetie, I want details in the morning!" And when Angela said details, she meant ALL the details.
Of course, there would be no details. Because of that stupid line. That stupid, pointless, really-wish-it-wasn't-there line that Camille Saroyan had so easily crossed.
She hated seeing Booth and Cam together. They had to flaunt their relationship throughout the whole lab, Temperance had to cringe and turn back to her bones whenever they were together. Ugh. Come on, they were together but did they have to play tonsil-hockey every time they saw each other?? It was unprofessional to say the least.
Temperance had great respect for the pathologist, but secretly hated her guts. Camille Saroyan was great at her job, had a figure to die for and killer legs. These reasons, among other things, is why Booth was attracted to Cam. But Temperance had these things too!! Okay, she didn't understand every single pop culture reference known to man. Okay, she was slightly more curved than the stick thin pathologist. Okay, she was more professional than compassionate when it came to her work, but she was good at her job. Fantastic, even. She was a world-renowned forensic anthropologist. And a published author. A popular one at that. And what did Cam do? Pull out organs and run tests??
Brennan had the perfect job. Camille Saroyan had the perfect life, perfect boyfriend, perfect damn everything.
It was official. Temperance Brennan hated Camille Saroyan. No, scratch that. She just wishes she was her.
