AN#1: This is just a test fic. I wasn't trying to create a master piece here. This idea was just floating in my head. I was trying to see if I could make a Drabble (I failed), and test the waters of Harry Potter(Not sure if I failed). So here we go.
Disclaimer: I do not own the Harry Potter franchise. It belongs to J.K. Rowling, Scholastic, and Warner Bros. I am in no way associated with these people/organizations. I am making no profit of this.
The chances of a Muggle family having magical children was certainly not unheard of in the Wizarding World. In fact it was quite common. It was fairly rare though for a Muggle family to produce more than one magical child in a generation. In fact there were only 60 known cases in the last 200 years. So chances were Colin would be the only Wizard of the youngest Creevey generation. Despite this (or maybe because of this) his parents made a point not to treat him differently from the rest of the family, and his siblings had all come to accept the fact that they'd never be magical.
Then in the summer after his 11th birthday Dennis was invited to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with his brother.
When the letter arrived Colin had hugged his brother hard and swung him around as best he could. Being the closest two siblings in age the brothers had been heartbroken at spending the last two school years apart. Now though they'd be together again. It was the first time Colin had told Dennis he could "beat all the odds."
When the Sorting Hat was placed upon his head that September 1st it had made up its mind almost instantly. It was one moment from calling out Hufflepuff, when Dennis stopped it. 'No,' he had begged, 'I want to be a Gryfindor.' The Hat had paused, considered this, and told Dennis he was best suited for Hufflepuff when taking his intense loyalty into account. The Hat argued that the boy would do anything for his family especially his older brother. Dennis simply replied, 'Then please, put me with him. Let me be with Colin.' If the Hat could chuckle Dennis was sure it would have as it responded, 'Stubborn to the end eh? Just like a true... GRYFFINDOR!
Dennis had practically thrown off the Hat in his rush to get to Colin. Once again Colin gave him a bone crushing hug. The the two boys enjoyed the rest of the feast joyously. Later as they walked side by side to the common room the younger boy revealed that he had only been put in Gryffindor because he made the Sorting Hat put him there. Smiling Colin replied, "Hardly anyone argues with the Hat and wins, you really do like to beat the odds Dennis."
The saying would become the theme of the younger boy's life.
He'd received his first kiss (and a black eye) from Astoria Greengrass, a Slytherin and the prettiest girl his age in third year. He was the only 12 year old able to sneak into Hogsmede and join Dumbledore's army in his second year. He even convinced Professor McGonagall to cancel his first detention of the year as a first year, the details of which he never told even Colin. Dennis seemed to succeed where others never could. Yet still he followed Colin around like a lost puppy. As the Sorting Hat predicted Dennis' loyalty never faltered.
So it was expected that the boy would follow his older brother when he sneaked back into Hogwarts with Slughorn and the older Slytherins. A 14-year-old going into battle against an army of Death Eaters, that was practically suicide. It was a miracle Dennis made it out alive and in one piece, but not a surprise. After all Dennis was the second magical son of an all Muggle family. Dennis beat the odds.
Colin however, didn't.
As he watched his brother's coffin sink into the cold ground, wand tucked in his forever still hand, for the first time in his life Dennis hated his Goddamn good luck.
AN#2: So that's my first Potter fic. Hopefully it wasn't horrendous.
Review Please.
