The Winter Storm of my Brother's heart

A/N: Finally it's here! My new rewrite is here and I really hope you will like it. For those who doesn't know, yes this will be a musical. And it's going to be a full blown musical with about 20 songs and if you want to know what songs and in what order tell me if you want me to out up a list of them. If not, at least tell me this, I will just put the song in the A/N: at the beginning or the end of the chapter along with singer and source so you can find it and listen to it when you read the lyrics. At what part wold you want this information?

In this rewrite I will go in to more detail than I did in my first story, less romance, try to have as few plotholes as possible and try to make this story better than the first version I wrote a little more than a year ago. And we pick up after the 'Speed Demon incident' but before the 'Chimera Incident'. And if you haven't, you should probably read at least chapter 6 of my story 'Mutagen Madness - Rewrite' but you don't have to but it would make more sense if you did.

OBS! For those of you who want me to update 'Fighting the Demon' well you should read the A/N: from my latest one-shot and you will find more information there.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy my latest story and please review, favorite and follow.

Chapter 1, My inner curse

(Donnie's P.O.V)

The seasons had changed and now August had gone over to late September and as Leo had started to recover from the worst pains in his leg we had started to think of ways to try and go back to the city and take it back from the Kraang and Shredder. Alex had been a little hard to deal with at first but she had started to warm up to us more and more for every day that passed. And she proved to be both smart and tactical and not just a girl who liked to fight and she knew a lot of the Kraang just like Kurtzman had done, if he was still alive or unmutated. We were all sitting in the living room and tried to come up with some kind of plan.

"If I know my uncle right, and I do, he has probably put the entire city in quarantine so no one can get in our out. But I can't tell if the Kraang has outsmarted him and the troops. They are good at taking control of people, either with their technology or even without it. I bet my motorcycle on that the whole city is guarded by either military forces or Kraang-droids." Leo bit his lip and thought it over. He then placed his hand on her shoulder.

"And what about your father's army? How many soldiers do you think he has and how tough are they compared to the Kraang?" Alex looked at Leo and then turned her face down to the table.

"Compared to the Kraang, they're fewer and not as advanced with their technology. And even if my father, my uncle and most of his soldiers have survived the invasion or the mutagen, I still doubt they'll stand a chance against an entire army of Kraang-droids and their supply of mutagen. Other than that, I don't think I can tell you more." Raph growled and pulled out his sai from his belt and stapped the tip into the table with a frustrated growl.

"Ugh! Well then how are we supposed to take back our city?! The longer we sit here on our butts and watch TV, eat junkfood or just run around here like rats in a maze, the longer the Kraang can mutate more innocent people and take over more of the city! We have to do something!" Leo looked at Raph with a tired frown and a small glare.

"Yes Raph, we know that. But right now we're not ready. We've still got obstacles to overcome, like I still have to be able to train without my leg getting the best of me. And besides, we don't have any way of knowing what's going on, except through the news and they don't have that much to offer." Casey rolled his eyes and placed his chin in his hand, and Mikey started to tune out Raph and Leo's banter, April and Alex left the room and I sensed a new argument, so I stood up and walked towards the door.

"I'll be back soon." I said, even though I knew no one was really listening to what I said anyway. As soon as I opened the door I felt the cool, yellow autumn sun warm my skin, ever so slightly and the nice, cool, fresh autumn air caress my skin and the smell of crispy, brown leaves hit my nose. I shuddered when my feet touched the cold and the damp grass that had started to turn yellow/orange. But not because the cold was a problem, no in fact the cold had never really bothered me or been a problem. I could stay in my cold lab during the winter and the could be a small nuisance. Kinda like a buzzing fly, annoying but not so bad it would kill you. I shuddered out of pleasure, cause unlike my brothers, I liked it when it was cold and especially when it was snowing in the sewers, though that didn't happen so often.

I started to walk towards the forest and let out a sigh of pure pleasure as the fresh air did wonders for the stress I had felt the past few weeks. Only a few weeks back I had been rescued from the Shredder and Alex had moved in with us, (though she lived in her trailer and not in the house) and I had started to feel nervous about returning back to the city. What would happen? What would be come back to when we did go back? I sighed heavily and sat down on a rock in the forest. When had the world turned inside out and upside down? I sighed again.

"There was a time when everything was easier. When there was no alien invasions or threats from evil and insane ninja masters or crazy mutants running around all over the city. What happened to those days? And what do you do when everything has turned upside down?" I heard the birds chirp over my head and I saw two bluebirds chasing each other playfully while chirping at each other.

I smiled at the scene and then I saw a small grey/brown fox peek out from behind a bush and he walked a few steps closer to me. I was a bit startled at first, but then I smiled at fox, squatted down and reached out my hand carefully and slowly so I wouldn't scare him. He looked at me with his head tilted to the side, then he ran up to me and pushed his head into my hand and wanted me to stroke his head. I saw on the size of the fox that it was a male and it was a relatively young fox, I saw that almost immediately. He couldn't be more than a few months old and he had probably been left behind by his mother or she had been shot or killed by some other animal or human, it wasn't exactly uncommon. I smiled at him before I carefully picked up the fox and tickled him under the chin and stroke his ears and then his back, which he seemed to like very much.

"You don't understand how good you have it. You don't have to worry about things like aliens, mutants or ninjas. You just live your lives they way you want to. I sometimes wish I could live my life the way you do." I smiled at the small fox and looked into its big brown eyes that somehow reminded me of Master Splinter, and how we had left him behind in New York after the others saved me from Shredder. I sighed and put the animal down again.

"When the world turns upside down nothing is for sure. All the dreams you thought were real, you can't find any more." I reached out and patted the fox on the head, between the ears and then on the back, before I stood up again. "And then there's how the pieces fly, most of all the ones inside." I started to walk off, deeper into the woods and fox started to walk after me.

"If only I knew how to fix it all I would. If only one heart all alone did any good. But I feel so small." I put my hand against the trunk of a thick tree and looked up into the sky. "What can I do at all, when the world has turned upside down?" I watched some of the clouds sail by on the sky, before I walked deeper into the woods, all while the small fox walked after me like a dog.

"Oh, nobody knows where the world's gonna fly, but I still got to give it a try." I started to walk towards a hill and the fox kept on walking after me and didn't seem to understand that he should go back into the woods and be on his own again. "If the world turns upside down, I'm just a gust of wind. Guess I should get ready now for when it comes again. What do I hold? Where will I go? And will I feel this all alone?" On top of the hill was a big oak and from the top of the hill you could see the farmhouse, and it was a very beautiful view too.

"If only I knew how to fix it all I would. If only one heart all alone did any good, but I'm just so small. What can I do at all?" I walked up to the oak and then turned around to look at the farmhouse. I couldn't see anyone on the yard, but I guess nobody wanted to be outside right now if they didn't absolutely have to. Like to get more firewood. "Now that the world has turned upside down. I sat down, tailor style and placed my chin in my hand and rested my elbow on my knee. "Turned upside down." The fox skipped up to me and nuzzled his head against my arm, making me chuckle and scratch him under his chin.

"Heh, you seem like a curious little rascal, aren't ya? You're just looking for someone who can take care of ya, huh?" A small thought entered my head and I smiled at him, picked him up under his forelegs and held him so his face was eye to eye with my face.

"Hey, you're kinda cute you know. You kinda remind me of my little brother, he always tries to make people smile and cheer them up when he thinks he needs to." I put him back down on the ground and he opened his mouth, let his tongue hang out and it looked like he was smiling at me. I smiled back, at least someone liked me right now.

I had been thinking about it for quite some time now. Ever since we had come up to the farmhouse, things had been harder and harder for me to handle. I didn't like to say it, because Raph and Mikey would never let me hear the end of it, but I had always been a bit scared of not having full control over things. While Leo may be the leader, I still felt like more of a control freak than Leo sometimes, mostly because whenever I had invented a new gadget, weapon or just an invention and it failed, I felt like I let my brothers, family and friends down because I couldn't control the situation or my invention. And since we came up here, more and more things happened when I couldn't do anything to help or to control the situation. Like with April's 'mother', with the Punk Frogs or with the Speed Demon. I knew that if I could, I would fix it all on my own, but I also knew I couldn't and there have been so many times now when I couldn't do anything to help anyone, and it was slowly eating on my self confidence.

The small fox, who seemed to understand that something wasn't right, and also seemed a bit disappointed now that he wasn't getting much attention anymore, placed both his front paws on my thigh and licked my cheek a little, trying to get some reaction. I jumped a little when I felt his tongue on my face, but when I realized that he just tried to make me feel better and wanted some attention I smiled and patted his head.

"Thanks. But I don't think I can take care of you. I have a bunch of other things I have to take care of back at home." I reached out and picked a straw of grass and was about to play-tease the small fox with it, but what happened next was beyond anything I had ever seen. The grass straw stiffened and got covered in frost and a bit of ice! I couldn't help it. I dropped the grass straw and let out a scream and the fox flew up from my lap and ran of into the woods with a yelp.

I panted from the outburst and then leaned down to the grass straw, that was now covered in ice. But then I saw that the grass under my hands also got covered in frost and ice and I flew up from the grass in less than a second. I backed away from the frost on the ground but then the next surprise came. When I placed my left foot down ice started to spread on the ground and I almost fainted on the spot. I looked over at the big oak a few feet away from me and I walked up to it. When I was close enough to it I placed my hand on the thick trunk and the effect was immediate. The trunk got covered with frost and ice and it spread from the trunk and down to the roots and up to the branches and the leaves as well. Okay, it was official, my panic had swallowed me whole and I tried so hard to breathe calmly and think clearly, but it was really hard to calm down.

"Okay, okay, okay, don't panic Donnie. Panic will only make things worse. Just breathe." I did calm down, but only a little bit. Then my brain finally started to work. I decided to get back to my lab, take tests and figure out what to do when I had more information. So I ran the whole way back to the farmhouse, ran over the yard and ignored the others who had begun training outside. I ran over to the barn, ripped the doors open, bolted in and slammed the doors shut with a *bang*. I saw that the door (at least here on the inside) had a little frost on it but I ignored it and instead sat down at my laptop. I started with taking a blood test and started to type into a certain program I used when I needed to take blood samples. An what I saw was shocking to say the least.

My blood cells had somehow transformed, or mutated into a new shape, a new colour and new abilities. The had gone from round, ordinary blood cells into hexagon, almost snowflake shaped blood cells. And the colour had gone from red to a pale, white-blue colour and that's apparently what had given me these abilities. These, ice powers if you will. I pushed the chair away from the desk and I put my head in my hands and tried to breathe calmly. How had this happened to me? And why?

Then I remembered something that had happened a while back, when my brothers saved me from the Shredder.

(Flashback)

"Look out!" Mikey yelped slightly as he got pushed out of the way, but I didn't hear it and the ice cold mutagen hit me all over my body, from my head to my feet.

"Stockman!" Shredder yelled out in anger, and I also heard the others scream out in fear and panic but I didn't hear it. Panic ran right through my veins, and I just clenched my fists and closed my eyes tightly and waited for the mutagen to freeze my body, but instead, when I opened my eyes I saw that the pale blue, cold mutagen sucked itself into my body and just disappeared into me. I lowered my arms that I had raised over my face and twisted and turned on them to see if there was anything left, and then I looked down at my body and saw nothing of my fake retromutagen left.

"What?" I muttered to myself and I just felt utterly confused. My brothers and all the other mutants in the room along with Shredder seemed just as confused.

"Nothing happened?" Alex said right out into the air and I don't think she expected an answer. Rahzar scratched his head in confusion and looked kinda stupid. Which was saying a lot since he usually looked kinda scary.

"Shouldn't something happen, or what?" I inspected my arms and my body and tried to get my brain to work again, but I still couldn't think straight.

"You've got me..." I muttered and rubbed my arms absentmindedly and took deep breaths and tried to shake the adrenaline that had spread through my body. Raph took matter into his own hands and grabbed my arm and pulled me towards him.

"Let's worry about this some other time! For now, let's get outta here!" I shook my head to clear it and we all ran towards the door.

My eyes widened in realisation. My fake retromutagen had been tossed over me and had somehow gotten into my body! That's how this had happened! But what could I do about it now? I couldn't exactly empty my body of my blood and the refill it with new blood! That would be impossible! I leaned back in my chair and pressed my hands in my face. I would need to talk to somebody about this. Someone who knew science. I nodded to myself. I knew who to talk to.

(Alex's P.O.V)

We had all gotten surprised when Donnie came running back from the forest like he was chased by a monster and looked like he had seen a ghost, but we had decide that he probably left something on in the labor something. If it was important he would tell us about it, so none of us payed much attention to it. But as I sat and read my book while the others trained, I saw Donnie come out again and walked up to us. I smiled at him with a raised eyebrow (my usual smile) and waved him over.

"Hey! What was up with you before? You looked like you had seen a ghost or had a monster on your tail." He looked like he was lost in his head, and looked up at me like he had woken up from a deep sleep.

"Huh? Uh, nevermind that! Look, Alex I need to talk to you, in private. It's about something, uh scientific. I need your opinion on what I've just found out." I was a bit surprised when he said he wanted to talk to me alone, but I nodded, stood up and walked with him to the barn. The others He closed the door behind us and motioned to the two chairs and I sat down in one of them. He sat down on the other chair, in front of mine and played a little with his hands. After a while I decided to break the silence.

"So... What is it you want to talk to me about?" Donnie played with his fingers and it was first now that I realized that Donnie was a it paler than usual and his eyes seemed to try and hide something. He took a deep breath and then looked up at me.

"I have a problem." I heard the seriousness in his voice and I immediately gave him all my attention. He took another deep breath and then looked down at his lap. "There are," He paused a bit and tried to find the right word "aspects, of my body that I can't control." I smirked at him. I had heard and seen scientists talk about bad habits, weird aspects and difficulties that they tried to work on, so this was nothing new. So I just shrugged at him and looked at him, trying to look cocky.

"So you're a work-a-holic?" Donnie bit his lip, looked down to the side and almost looked like a kid who knew had don something wrong and was now trying to tell his stern parents.

"It's a little bit more complicated than that." I rolled my eyes and shook my head at him and placed my hand on his shoulder.

"Donnie, when it comes to normal, crazy, weird and even mad scientists and their crazy stories, habits and aspects, let me tell you something, I've heard and seen all of them." Donnie shook his head slowly at me.

"Not this one." He looked at the floor and saw a rock on the floor and then looked up at me, and raised one finger at me. "Watch this." He grabbed the rock and held it in front of me. Then, much to my surprise I saw that the rock, slowly but surely got covered in frost and ice! I gasped and leaned in closer to get a better view.

"Woah, I mean, that's crazy! How did you- I mean-why did-" Then, when I looked up and saw Donnie's face and I stopped talking immediately. Donnie looked both scared and confused and he let the rock fall to the floor and then pointed to his laptop.

"The test results are one the laptop. Have a look yourself." I walked over to the laptop and looked over all the results. From what I could understand something had made its way into Donnie's bloodstream and mutated the blood cells into 'ice-cells' as I decided to call it and gave Donnie these effects that he showed me. I turned to Donnie with a raised eyebrow and talked with a soft voice.

"How did this happen? Did this happen because of the 'Speed Demon-thingy?'" he shook his head stood up, walked over the wall and leaned his back against it with his arms crossed over his chest.

"No, it happen when you guys saved me from the Shredder before. I created a fake retromutagen that I came up with a while ago and it froze things and itself. When Splick-fly tossed it on me, it somehow got sucked into my blood and now, I can freeze things too!" As kept talking, his voice got louder and filled with fear, and suddenly the wall he was leaning against froze underneath his shell. and when Donnie saw that, he shrieked and practically jumped away from the wall. And I could see in his eyes that Donnie was close to a freak-out, but didn't know what to do to help him. Suddenly he started to scream out his frustration and fear.

"Why did this have to happen? Don't we have enough to worry about as it is?! Don't we already have to deal with a city being taken over by aliens and a possibly dead father and a mad ninja master and everything we have to deal with up here? A now this?! Why, just WHY!?" When he screamed out 'why' he threw his hands accidentally sent away a ice-blue, glowing ball from his hands and I barely had time to dodge before it flew over my head and hit the wall behind me and left behind a thick layer of ice and dangerously pointy icicles that stuck out from the wall. Donnie gasped in terror and looked down at his hands.

"It's even stronger than I thought..." It wasn't louder than a whisper, but I still heard it, got up from the floor and tried to place a hand on his shoulder.

"Clearly, getting upset will only make it worse, so just try to calm down-" I didn't even touch him before he jerked away from me and took a few steps back, always keeping his hands close to himself.

"NO! Don't touch me! Please I, I don't want to hurt you." The genuine fear and panic in his voice made my heart ache, but suddenly someone knocked on the door. Donnie jumped an let out a yelp and turned around to the door.

"Is everything okay in there?" That was Leo. He wouldn't give up. If he didn't get a good answer, from both of us, he would come in here, and I could see that Donnie didn't want to talk to him face to face right now. So I took a deep breath and tried to make my voice sound normal.

"We're fine Leo. Donnie's just showing me some advanced calculations that he needed my opinion on how to solve. Right, Donnie?" Donnie seemed to snap out of his trance and nodded to me.

"Uh, yeah. That's right." Leo didn't ask anything else about what we were doing and just said lunch would soon be served and then left. I looked at Donnie, who backed away from where he was standing and then just let himself fall down on the chair.

"Donnie, you have to tell the others." He looked at me with wide eyes and shook his head violently.

"NO! I don't want them to find out! Not yet!" I tried to remain calm since Donnie was so emotionally unstable right now, but it was hard since I wasn't really the calm and collected kind of person. I carefully placed my hand on his shoulder, and I felt his muscles get tense under my hand.

"Donnie, they have the right to know. They're your family." Donnie placed his face in his hands and let out a shaky breath and tried to relax. When he looked up from his hands I could see he was close to tears.

"Yeah I know, but not yet. I want to find out more about this..." He looked down at his hands and glared at them angrily. "This curse, before I tell anyone about this. And I need you to promise that you won't tell anyone about this! Please." I was taken back by his words and I first didn't really know what to say.

"Oh, uh Donnie I'm not really good at keeping secrets. I don't know if I can promise that." Donnie flew up from his chair and looked me in the eyes. And I saw he was about to place his hands on my shoulders but then he then jerked his hands away in the last second and decided to just look me in the eyes.

"Alex, please. You don't have to say anything to them, just let me say it when I'm ready to say it. I will tell them, just not yet. I'll keep myself locked up until I can figure out how to fix this. I'm too dangerous to be around the others right now." I bit my lip and thought it over. Donnie did make a bit of a scene, but he did have a point. His new 'powers' were unpredictable and could be dangerous if they weren't under control. And for now it would be good if he was kept in quarantine until we knew what to do. Then I got an idea and then held a up finger in front of him.

"Wait here." I ran out of the barn and over to my trailer. I ripped up one of the closets and took out a pair of big black gloves, a needle, some thread and a seam ripper before I ran back to the barn again. Donnie had chosen to sit down again while he waited for me to come back, and when I did he stood up again.

"Well, what do you have?" I showed him the black coloured gloves and then sat down at the desk and ripped up the seams that kept the fingers together before I sew the pinky and the ring finger together and did the same with the middle finger and the index finger. When I was done I gave them to Donnie.

"I figured the gloves might help a bit. You know, so the powers won't be revealed. That way you don't have to lock yourself away, at least not all the time. Just an idea. If you really want to stay away from us until you figure something out, then I won't stop you." Donnie looked down at the gloves and then put them on. They weren't a perfect fit, but they worked. He touched the wall and nothing happened. I smiled and he looked rather pleased as well.

"Come on, let's go and eat. You should at least think about this over some food." He nodded absentmindedly and we both walked out of the barn and back to the farmhouse. When we came in, the others had just sat down and started to eat. Leo looked up from the soup on the table and smiled at us.

"About time you two showed up, I was just about to go out and get you out of the barn." I smiled lightly at him and sat down. Donnie sat down without saying a word and didn't look anyone in the eyes. He just slowly ate the soup and seemed to be lost in his thoughts. Mikey looked at him and then at his gloves.

"Hey, Donnie? What's with those gloves, you have a germ-problem?" He said jokingly and tried to touch Donnie's hand, only for Donnie to jerk it away. He woke up from his thoughts and looked up at Mikey for a second and then looked back down again.

"No reason. I just, uh w-worked on some chemicals that burned my skin a little. I didn't have any bandages in the barn so I had to improvise." Mikey seemed a little hurt by the cold tone in Donnie's voice, but April looked up from her bowl and looked at Donnie worriedly.

"You've got hurt? Let me see it, I can out some bandages and ointment on it." Donnie's eyes shrunk down to the size of pinheads and quickly emptied his bowl, stood up and left his dishes in the sink, and was about to leave.

"Uh, you really don't have to do that April." April quickly stood up and walked up to him and tried to grab his hand and pull off the glove.

"No, but I want to look at it. And make sure it doesn't get infected." Donnie jerked his hands away from April, but she kept trying to grab it.

"April, seriously you don't have to look at it." April started to look annoyed and finally managed to get a hold on Donnie's right hand.

"Donnie, quit making such a fuss and just let me look at your hand!" Donnie yanked his hand away as he saw April grabbed the glove and shoved her away from him, a bit too hard.

"I SAID YOU CAN'T LOOK, SO LEAVE ME ALONE!" Everybody looked at him as April stumbled into the table and looked at Donnie with wide eyes. Casey flew up from his chair and ran up April and put his hand on her shoulder.

"Are you okay Red?" She nodded a bit absentmindedly, but looked pretty hurt. Raph and Leo also stood up and walked up to Donnie, with frowns on their faces.

"Donnie! What the heck was that? She was only trying to help!" Leo looked angry, but also confused. And I understood why, Donnie never usually acted like this, especially to April. Raph shoved him hard and glared at him.

"Yeah! And what's with the attitude? Decided to go from Jekyll to Hyde?" Donnie just glared back at him and though I tried to stay out of this argument, I could see that it pained him to act this way towards his family. I suppose he had made his choice.

"I told her that I didn't need her help, if she had listened to me I wouldn't have had to snap at her! Now, if you excuse me, I have to go to my lab and work on a batch of retro-mutagen! Good day." He pushed himself past Leo and Raph and never once lost his cold exterior. Mikey stood up from his chair and reached out his hand towards Donnie, who was about to walk out the door.

"Donnie, wait!" Donnie looked at Mikey with cold eyes and the walked out of the farmhouse and walked over to the barn. Leo looked over at me and then looked out of the window at Donnie and then looked back at me again.

"What's up with him?" I didn't know what to answer. I had never really said that I promised I wouldn't say anything, but I would be a horrible if I said anything anyway, so I shrugged at Leo and bit my lip.

"Bad day?" He looked concerned at Donnie through the window, just in time to see Donnie close the barn door after himself. I sighed lightly and realized that Donnie wouldn't come out of the barn today, or tomorrow or any day for a while, if ever. And I wasn't allowed to say a word to his family about why he wouldn't.

A/N: Okay, I have to say I'm not that pleased with how this chapter turned out, but I hope you liked it. And I said I would tone down the romance, not that it would go away, so you may see small, small Capril or Apriltello moments, but not that much. And please, don't ask me about 'Fighting the Demon' okay? Please? I really don't know if I will continue that story so keep those questions away, if you don't mind.

But do tell me if you want to a list of the songs or if you want it to be a surprise for every chapter that will come. I can put up the list on my DA side where you all can see it and leave your thoughts. And also, would you like to see more of that fox? I'm kinda torn between whether I should have it in the story or not. So tell me what you think!

Anyway, I hope you liked this chapter and please review, favorite and follow! G'night everybody!
